DK40 front bearing failure @ 1300 hours

I must be betting lazy....dropped it off at my local dealer to do. I just have other projects that need attention, first on the list is framing and pouring 2 sets of concrete stairs, each 12' long down at our swimming hole.

We had a bank erosion project completed last year. 300' of creek bank and 120 tons of rip rap. To reach the swimming hole right now you have to crawl down over the steep boulders, risking a snapped ankle or worse.
Howdy!

Sorry to hear of your bearing troubles, but happy to hear from you again. Always enjoyed your photos and descriptions of whatever projects you were embarked upon.

Back to bearings - did any of these failures give you some indication of impending doom? I plan on changing my front wheel bearings and seals at 1000 hours simply because of your experiences and my own overdoing it with the FEL.

Thanks,
Mike

No, not much warning even before the wheel fell off the first time. 2nd and 3rd time, a healthy intermittent screech.

Make sure you flush the axle tube thoroughly, since it feeds both sides of bearings. Also pay close attention to the seals, as I think one of mine failed this time and I didn't notice until the oil level was low.

Just for you Mike, I will start a new thread on these 12' concrete steps I will be pouring soon

Picking it up today, bearings on both sides replaced....$335.

Now I have the Honda 115 on the pontoon in pieces trying to solve a fuel delivery problem. It's always something, eh?

hi all, i havent been on for a long time, now have 975 hours on mine with heaps of heavy front end loader work.
just doing a service on our EX50 and found a piece of tooth in the drained oil from rh front bevel hub. - i always remove the lower cir clip and plug to drain the oil rather than the small drain plug, as you get to see and remove any wear metal. in this case i found a bit of tooth that has come from the main bevel gear - see picture.
i was unaware of the bearing issues with this model until tonight

i will be changing all bearings while in here - and now due to this post will look at replacing the wheel bearings on the other side also.
thanks for the heads up.
anyone seen the bevel gear loose a bit of tooth like this before ?
it sucks as this would be the best maintained tractor around, front gear oil are changed every 75 hours - go 80w90

Sorry to hear of this failure. I do not know your tractor. Are you using at least 1000# of counterweight on your 3PH?

To me what would cause this is turning on hard pan in 4x4 and the wheel in particular was jumping due to driveline wrap. I run 85 - 140 in my 4510hst.

Like usual 5030 is pulling stuff out of thin air. I just replaced the front bearings on a 07 Mitsubishi outlander. They were ball bearing and not rollers.
