I've always wanted to make my own tire chains (at least for the rear) for my Jeep durring winter. I once priced out a set at my local tractor shop and ruled out store bought in a hurry. LOL

I'm thinking 1/4" Transport chain at Princess Auto goes for $2.50/ foot... a rough guess would be 66'... so $165 plus tax and fasteners.

Anyone done this before? What fasteners are used?

I'm thinking I'd like a diamond pattern like this;

My tires are 40X15.5 on 17" wheels. Closest I could find in a plain ladder bar design were $250 before tax or shipping... on tirechains.com that is. I did find the fasteners on their website I need though!
