For the packaged deals like AA runs, I often focus on the filter first, more than the oil.

I agree with this statement. I worry more about the filter quality than the oil quality.

I read a very extensive University of Nebraska study on oil filters several years ago. They rated AC Delco at the top. Fram at the bottom. Really surprised me. I had always ran Fram filters and considered them a quality product. Shortly after reading that study a friend was 4 wheeling with us when his Dodge suddenly lost oil pressure and started rattling. We had to dead drag him 6 miles back to his house. Took the oil pan off and it was full of what looked like a mouse nest. Turned out to be the guts from his Fram filter. The retainer inside the filter had failed and sucked the filter element into the oil pump. That just happened to be the most frequent failure reason in the University study. A couple months later my Brother In Law had a Fram failure the same way on his Ford pickup. I haven't used a Fram since.

With synthetic oils I believe you could run the oil twice as long as the filter and get along fine. I would NEVER consider changing the oil and not the filter. Don't get that concept at all.....

USAF recommended oil filter changes every 400 hours or 6 months. I don't do 400 hours in a single year. But every 6 months is a bit excessive in my professional opinion. Once a year should be often enough to remove any oil that may have been contaminated by blow by and condensation for low hour users.

I also buy all my filters online. I get about 100 at a time, about a dozen part numbers. Works out to about $2.50 per filter with shipping.

Mann W917 is a very nicely built filter. These are OEM oil filter for Volvo cars and are identical to the Volvo filter you buy at the dealer. Also crosses to Napa 1307 which buy the way fits your Kubota. The only difference is an anti-drainback valve installed that has no effect on the Kubota as the oil flows the same way. Mann Europe lists a W913/1 for your Kubota that is the same without the anti-drainback valve.
We used to Buy W917s 200 at a time but rarely use them anymore. Never ever had a problem with them. They are built far better than the OEM Kubota #HH164-32430. Now I didn't tell you this but you won't guess what filter I use on my Kubota.

Toyota filters are very cheap right from the dealer Al. I bet if you called Pat at Heritage in parts he would sell you by the case for 20% off list.

Fred

Pat set me up with an autobody account (25% off), known him for more than a decade now. But Heritage is an hour and a half away so for small things I just get them on-line.

My local NAPA has a killer filter sale every other month, Most filters run 30 to 50% off regular price, I try to buy filters then.

Always get the NAPA gold filters wich are wix filters with NAPA propaganda on them. Nice thing is the wives Hyundai uses the same engine oil filter as the 790.

I buy my oil and fuel from the local bulk distributor wich I have an account. They just switched fully over to chevron oils, which I have always leaned towards anyway. Hard to beat bulk prices most of the time and the convenience of the set up they have.

I never have turned to the oil/filter change 20 buck specials. Usually feature lesser quality filters and the oil they are just selling at there non-inflated prices. The bulk oil prices I get usually beat the non-inflated prices and with the filter sale specials NAPA runs I get the gold filters instead of the lesser grade silver filters featured in there 20 buck special.

I miss the days of finding my favorite oil filter, or oil on sale. It doesn't happen anymore. All I see advertised on sale now is "pre-selected" oil plus filter combinations, and either I don't like the oil or I don't like the filter. Sure would be nice if they would special them individually again like they used to. Any one else miss this?

Agreed, for my wifes Mazda, we buy the oil at Walmart since a 5qt. jug of Valvoline 5-20 is $14.99, problem is the filters they offer im not compfortable with using. So, I have to make two stops.
My truck is much simpler, the oil and filter come from work.

My local NAPA's have been shut down and/or bought out. I think there are "Bond" now.

Splitting hairs really ???? I'm sure SuperTech dino/ synthetic oils, rank right up there with all the major brands. :laughing:probably just enough additives to meet spec.

Do you think that Walmart has it's own refinery for SuperTech products?

Walmart, SuperTech Diesel engine oil actually tests very well when compaqred to other major brands, tested better than Rotella! Not sure about their gasoline engine oils.

Yeah, I think that was Stick's point. Walmart doesn't produce oil. They buy oil from some other brand and label it SuperTech. So who knows,,,, you might be buying Rotella labeled SuperTech.
