I miss the days of finding my favorite oil filter, or oil on sale. It doesn't happen anymore. All I see advertised on sale now is "pre-selected" oil plus filter combinations, and either I don't like the oil or I don't like the filter. Sure would be nice if they would special them individually again like they used to. Any one else miss this?

I always see that advertised at Advanced Auto. I never buy oil and filters there, they are att least 33-50% more than walmart. I know some look down on them, but im perfectly happy using SuperTech oil and filters on trucks, cars, ect. When I do tractor I normally get Fram filter rather than cross Kubota to Fram, and then Fram to SuperTech.

I pretty much look at oil as something that people worry alot about, but brands really are splitting hairs. As long as it has oil in it, and change it every 5000-10,000 miles/500 hrs you'll be just fine.

Splitting hairs really ???? I'm sure SuperTech dino/ synthetic oils, rank right up there with all the major brands. :laughing:probably just enough additives to meet spec.

What I mean is that if changed regularly either will work just fine for 200k -300k miles. What advantage do you get out of your engine going 500k if you don't still own it. All you really do is spend extra to defer repairs that the vehicle will never live too need.

Reminds me of the 70-80 yr olds asking for 50 year shingles... why you'll be long dead by then.

I know its sacrilege to say, but 95% of people will never get their tractor to 10, 15, or 20,000 hours, and frankly if your going to drain and throw out every 50 hours, you really think it requires some super secret NASA blend?

Oil normally is only ever the limiting factor when someone runs completely out, or doesn't change for 50,000 miles

I use to do that but now I buy my filters in bulk off of eBay and then just buy the oil from WalMart. I can buy a 5 quart bottle of Mobile 1 for $25 and paid $20 for four Toyota brand filters with shipping. $30 for a full synthetic oil change and I can pick what oil and filter I use.

For my vehicles, the oil and filter deals at Advance Auto are a good savings over the individual oil and filter prices and I frequently buy them. I can get a great Mobil One or other extended interval filter and extended interval oil at a great price. I've now managed to take my oil change intervals from the 3,000 miles of light years ago to 7,500 of today. Even then, I'll bet an oil analysis would say I could go further. I'm happy with the oil and filter deals.

After all that I will say I have either heard or read some great comments on Wal Mart Supertech oil and I don't have a problem with it. My decision to buy brand names is based mostly on the ignorance of not wnting to do my homework on oil comparison as others here have done. Ether way, as Crazyal stated, I don't think any of us is ever going to have an oil or related problem based on the frequency change most of us adhere to.

I use Mobil1 5w-30 in our cars, change it every fall when I put snowtires on. I change the filters (Mann 917 for both the Caravan and Volvo, $4.65 each if I buy a 10 pack when I have an order into FCP Groton) when I put the snowtires on in the fall and when I take them off in the spring.
Works out to ~10k miles on a oil change and 5-7k miles on a filter.

I've been using super tech synthetics on all my gasoline engines for awhile now, from the 93' 5.7 liter 350, to my '04 4.0 Jeep straight 6, to the wife's 07' mini cooper and the lawnmower and generator engines. Probably close to 150,000 miles on the auto engines with SuperTech. I change the oil about every 6-8K depending upon the engine and use. I can't say anything bad about it and neither do other people that use it. Most of the filters I buy from Fleetfilter.com.

Amazon.com is often another good option for filters. Bulk deals are usually to be had, often with free USA shipping.

For the packaged deals like AA runs, I often focus on the filter first, more than the oil. Just me. I'd say they are mostly marketing to the Saturday "Darn, I shoulda changed the oil a month ago" guys, than us folks who like to stock up ahead of time.

I like to have inventory at home anyway, but I do it partly so I have one less excuse for not doing maintenance on time. :D

Mann W917 is a very nicely built filter. These are OEM oil filter for Volvo cars and are identical to the Volvo filter you buy at the dealer. Also crosses to Napa 1307 which buy the way fits your Kubota. The only difference is an anti-drainback valve installed that has no effect on the Kubota as the oil flows the same way. Mann Europe lists a W913/1 for your Kubota that is the same without the anti-drainback valve.
We used to Buy W917s 200 at a time but rarely use them anymore. Never ever had a problem with them. They are built far better than the OEM Kubota #HH164-32430. Now I didn't tell you this but you won't guess what filter I use on my Kubota.

Toyota filters are very cheap right from the dealer Al. I bet if you called Pat at Heritage in parts he would sell you by the case for 20% off list.
