I have had my CK20 for 9 months now and have finally reached twenty (20) hours. I have a manual trans. My concern is this. I was clearing some brush in low gear and first gear. I hit a stump and the tractor stopped and the wheels kept on turning which is a good thing . However when I put the cluth in to shift into reverse and relieve the pressure against the tree stump I heard a strange noise. I can only describe the sound as similiar to the sound a chain on a bicycle makes when it is pedeled slowly backwards. I am going to check to see if the sound happens when I stress the backhoe.
Any thoughts?

use your front end loader to pick up the front axel of the ground, kill the engine. Then get of the machine and turn the front wheells forward and backward and listen.
Let us know please. virgil

Virgil, I followed your instructions and noticed what sounds like normal gear turning noises. No binding and the fluid level is OK.
Any ideas?

More than likely you just snagged the backhoe frame and when you released the pressure it returned to where it normally rides. The hoe frame has a little room in the front to allow for ease of removal and installation. You will sometimes hear this when operating the backhoe also.

Dave,
Does this noise sound like the gearbox unwinding, as Mine does the same thing. If you come up against something immovable it sounds like the gearbox is unwinding when you shove the clutch in. Hope this answers your question, I have 40 hours on mine now and I noticed this the first time I came up against something solid. I dismissed it as a normal sound.

Wasn't going to do any more posts, but I couldn't pass on this one. It sounds like an over-running clutch to me, but I'm not sure the CK20 manual has one. The HST does, and if you push in the clutch with a mower in motion, you'll hear that sound. John

I'd have to agree with KiotiJohn, The CK20 manual does have an over-running clutch. Probalby what you are hearing.

Thanks Guys, the tech rep. from Kioti said the same thing about the over riding clutch. Dave
