Recently picked up a used Leinbach disc. I have a problem. It is hooked up to the three point and is level front to back and side to side. When I put the lift arms all the way down the disc seems to float along the ground and does not dig in deeply. However if I go in reverse the disc operates as it should, churns alot of earth. I do have the discs set to maximum angle.

The lift arms always seem to float, if I need to hook up equipment and the arms are full down I can lift them up manually. Is this normal? I suppose I can disc in reverse but two acres like that will give me a stiff neck. Should I put some sort of weight on the disc frame to keep it from following ground contour?

When you go in reverse you are lifting on the arms causing the back of the disk to dig in. I think you need to add some weight to the front gangs on your disk so they bite better.

I was always taught in my youth by my Dad to never ever backup a disc(wheeled version) and I would think that backing up a mounted disc would put all sorts of different strains on 3pt hitch arms and the bearings on the disc gangs.

Try changing the length of your top link. You can either raise the rear so the front will cut more or lower the rear to make the rear cut better. After playing with mine last summer I finally found a sweet spot where it cuts very well. I think it is just trial and error to find the correct length.

Shorten the top link so the disk is 2-3" lower in the front.

if it's level when in the fullly raised position then your toplink is set too far out, shorten it as stated above to be 3 inches or so lower in front than back
