I have a 3520 with a locked up front end. The wheels spin freely (one each direction) but the input shaft will not move. I have not forced it; the tires were skidding on slippery mud instead of turning and I was able to back out of the situation sliding on the loader with tires lifted. At this point I have taken off the whole front axle assembly and would like some advice on what to do next.

Do the axles need to be removed to get off the differential cover? Can the input shaft be removed without opening? The input shaft (which costs a fortune) has been partially stripped on the external splines for more than a year and should be replaced anyway with things this far along. How is it removed?

On all diff s you need to remove sideshafts before you can remove the diff !

I have a manual now and will be going forward. It indicates that the spindles and final drive can be removed as complete assemblies which answers my question for now.
