dipper arm cylinder

on my bh has done it again.

First time out since I had nut replaced on the end of the cylinder shaft.

First one stripped off.

This time the end of the shaft has snapped off.

Didn't back into anything , just happened working a loose stump out of the ground.

Question... doesn't the relief valve protect against this kind of damage?

Dealer said no!

I agree with Jerry. The dealer should check to see that the relief valve pressure is correct. Sounds to me like it's too high and not relieving in time to save the cylinder from damage. John

No I haven't checked the pressures.

I asked the dealer if the relief should keep this from happening....

He said it won't...

I find this hard to believe.

If it is not overpressure then maybe you could check that the cylinder end is exactly perpendicular to the cylinder, if not their maybe some flexing going on as the arm swings through its arc loosening the nut and eventually stripping it or if its tight enough (the nut) then you may get metal fatigue and eventually break something off. Am I babbling or could this be a possible cause?

Well, if that's the case, I suspect my loader would be in a shambles after what I've managed to do with it.
