Newbury, did you fix the links? Now I can see them.
Nope - I didn't do anything to them.
RE: Vermont, pond next to house
When I grew up (12 to 23 yrs old, 1963-1975) in Essex Center Vt. on Sleepy Hollow Rd. we built a duplex on 30 acres. Shortly after the house was built my Dad had the Soil Service put in a 1/2 acre pond for $600. Basically they came along, put in a standpipe and built a small dam. Well my Dad got along well with the dozer operator and the guy left the dozer there over the weekend after he built the HALF acre pond. When he picked up the dozer the dam had grown a few feet taller, probably 20 yards longer, and the pond had grown to 2 1/2 acres plus the operator had an extra 10 gallons of diesel fuel and I think a bottle of human starter fluid (Scotch)
That pond was approx. 10 yards from our walk out basement. That pond was stocked with (after a year) big succulent brook trout. There was MANY a morning when there wasn't ice coverage that I would walk out at dawn, and catch a brace of trout for breakfast. And then maybe do the same for dinner. Talk about a sweet life.
Good memories.
