Differential locked up

My first big problem, I have a LB 1914, my rear differential is locked in and the foot lever is bound up. Iam in the process of taken the ruts off the back hill, both wheels spin and the lever can't be pushed down, will this damage the rear end? the lever acts as if it is locked. It worked fine when I bought it, I noticed both wheels spinning and found the problem with the lock lever being stuck. Has anyone had this problem? and what do I need to do to fix it?

As far as doing damage to the tractor...No.
UNLESS you try to use it on a solid surface.
It will be harder to control the machine, with the diff locked.
With the wheels locked it wants to go in a straight line.
It may be rusted and stuck. I would spray it with PB Blaster and let it soak.
Do that everytime you think of it.
Spray it where the shaft enters the transmission/rearend case.

actually if you load it down real hard it might. The one wheel spinning is so that the pressure can come off before it breaks something. A Diff Lock is only for very short burst when both tires pulling will get you out of a hole. You do not want it to run very long. It would take a long time to explain how it and the planataries in the rear end works and how the work when locked. Short answer DONT USE IT UNTIL YOU FIX IT. Because if you rip out that rear end and possible the final drive if the tractor has one it will be very costly
