Different uses for blowers

Thinking about a new blower. I know one would be handy. Thinking of all I could use it for.

Cleaning out a garage.
Blowing off vehicles after washing(Dogs too).
Lighting your BBQ pit FAST!!!
Cleaning the debris off implements after mowing.

Does anyone have any tips or other ingenous uses/applications.

I think I like the hand held type more than the backpack although I know they aren't nearly as powerful. Can anyone say why or how a backpack model would be easier to use?

water tends to sit at the end of our driveway (because the town did an awful job paving) we use it to remove the water before it refreezes.

Here's one for the Darwin Award:
I had an emergency check in in my kennel a couple weeks ago. I had to do a quick spray down and get the run the dog was going into dried out fast . I used my blower to do this.
So, the lesson learned is you don't want to use your gas powered blower where smoke detectors are involved /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif, but it did do the job.

sort of off central theme but--I bought a Stihl 550 backpack blower recently (one down from their largest) and find it pathetically weak for its price. Its that new 4 mix engine...
It wasn't much better than a handheld.
people may want to reconsider when choosing.
I traded it off and will get a RedMax 7000 series.

Clean the hay baler, especially good for the the knotters.
Clean out the gutters.
Blow the leaves off the utility trailer.
Great for getting a brush fire started.
Mine is a Craftsman handheld ( Father's day gift from my son) when/if it dies I would like to try a backpack model. My arms get tired sometimes and I think a backpack model would be easier on my arms.

Here's another use, but again the smoke detector thing will play into the situation. Cleaning out the laundry's dryer tube/vent. These things become full of lint and are a fire hazard.

My wife said I was a redneck for doing this this past weekend.

I was burning a stump. I went to blow the ashes off so the guy that is coming to do the stump grinding I noticed that it would make the embers glow bright red and then flame up again.

so, when the flames would die down, I'd take my stihl blower out, get the whole stump glowing red and let it burn more. The guy won't have to grind this stump now as it is about 6" below the surface now /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We have a burn pile that often gets to be about 20' tall--everyone makes 'donations'. Alot of people would use gasoline to get it really going fast but all we need is a bunch of newspaper and my blower and that baby is roaring in about 2 minutes /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We had trouble with the fire under the cook pan for making molasses. The owner went after his gas leaf blowers but that meant someone would have to operate it full time. I had an electric variable speed Craftsman at home. Stuck the snout in a 4 or 5 foot length of 4" square tubing and we were in business again. We could adjust the speed as needed and walk away. It would probably make a good forge blower too. Maybe overkill for that. One brother has a blower made from an Allis Chalmers silo blower. Fabbed a 3 point hitch with pto. Talk about a leaf blower and brush pile burner, it does the trick!

I use it to clean up job sites at the end of the day. Blows off the sawdust piles and lifts the grass where I've trampled it down from walking so much in straight line. Also, my blower is a combo blow/vac, if I've done an outside project, say shutters for instance, I suck the leaves and debris out from the bushes that way when I show the homeowner the finished job it looks neat & clean (even if cleaning the bushes wasn't on their "to do" list, it just presents a nice touch at the end).

I use my back pack bp40, for Snow ,clean gutters, the inside of my truck, hair dryer,a sand blaster,as a sprayer, for leafs, to remove puddles of water,any thing you can think of!

I open both doors on my pickup, collect all the junk laying around and then blow away on the seats, floor, dash etc. It all goes out the other door. I'm amazed how much dust can gather in my truck over time.

I use my blower (hand held) to blow water off my motorcycle engine after a bath. Keeps water spotting down.

So someone else besides me cares if job site is clean. I use one to blow all that sawdust off before snapping lines. It also helps to keep those wet piles of sawdust out of the corners where they freeze up. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Since my blower is hand held, I've drilled a hole in the discharge tube that accepts the wand from the back pack sprayer. With couple of zip-ties holding the wand in place, and with the sprayer valve locked in the on position I can quickly spray pesticides, fungicides and the like. Once you dial in the blower speed and the application rate you'll find that the penetration rate is fantastic. Of course, with the wind at your back and then backing into the wind, and the use standard safety precautions, it's a real efficient application process. When finished, I place a couple wraps of duct tape over the hole, and the blower is good-to-go.
