On my B7800, push the lever to the detent and it raises or lowers very slowly, push it past the detent and it raises or lowers quickly. Never could figure out why they called it quarter inching.:confused2:

please excuse my ignorance but buy (detent) are you referring to the adjustable bracket that lets you go to the slow or fast position? also the valve in front of the seat does near ones ankles, open/close what exactly does this do?

Detent is probably not the right word...it's those little steps in the slot (one at the upper end of the slot, one at the lower end) where the lever slides. You push the lever slightly sideways to get to the next (faster) step.
The knob in front of the seat is a further control of how fast the TPH drops, which you can infinitely adjust to suit the implement you are using. There is no similar adjustment for TPH raising speed (other than engine speed).

I have had the knob all the way closed and the TPH still drops/raises like a bomb/rocket.
On my B7800 I have an adjustable metal plate which I can "inch" or raise/drop quickly.

The knob by your ankle, at least on my 3200 not only controls the speed of the TPH raising and lowering, but when u place the implement in the position you want it, turn the knob to closed and the THP locks in the position you placed it

I've never tried closing the knob completely since the "inching" does a slow controlled drop for me.
