Anyone got tips or tricks to remove diesel fuel spots/smell from clothing and hands?

I saw the subject line and immediately remembered with fondness the smell of diesel while playing, um, make that working, on my Kubota. What a letdown!

A wealth of information can be found at WWW.FORD-DIESEL.COM. Just check the FAQ files. I have an F-350 PSD and found numerous tips on diesel fuel there.

Pat -

I asked the exact same question shortly after my first attempt at pouring 5 gallons of diesel into my tractor. From the replies I got back, Simple Green worked best for me. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Here's the web site on that. Simple Green All kinds of info there. They recommend it for just about everything. I've never tried it before. Looks interesting though. I'll have to get some.

Thanks boys! i apologize for the subject heading - should have been more explicit. But it is a very legitimate question.

Rather ironic, don't you think? - Mom asking for laundry help from a bunch of tractor guys./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

My wife is a zealot for Simple Green. Works great in removing all sorts of stains and odors. She always washes my barn clothes in Simple Green and they come out clean and even smell good. Also great for washing the dog when she decides to roll in "stuff" for that doggy perfume smell. Cleaned her up well (the dog), too, after the last incident with a skunk and the inevitable tomato juice bath. As my wife tells everyone, "try it, you'll like it."

Hi Pat,

Your post kind of begs the question though, why would you want to REMOVE the diesel smell?? I for one work hard to get that particular odor!!! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Wow! A buck a gallon - At the local gas stations #2 off-road is $1.39/gal or more (including taxes). I'm hauling it in 5 gallon containers for now. It would be less expensive to have it delivered in bulk (I think around $1.25), but I'm not set up for that yet. I've got an old 200 gallon fuel tank that was outside on a cedar post stand. I had the inside cleaned out and built a new stand for it. I'll put it up inside the shop so I don't have to deal with the wind and weather. But, before I put the tank onto the stand and put it into use, I want to sandblast and paint it.

well, i found out yesterday, how to get the diesel smell/taste out of your mouth after a siphonin mishap; lots of brushing with baking soda and then lots of peppermint candy..

What works really well is Goop-type machanic's hand cleaner. This also works great on clothes too. We always use it on clothes for any oily stains or tree sap. It has never caused any spots on the clothes, and it works good on your hands too.

heehaw,

Sounds like you had a bad day if you had to find out how to get the taste of diesel out of your mouth! LOL!

yuck!

When I was in school I had a similar accident. The school had passed out care packages to the dorm students. The packages had soap, toothpaste, shaving cream, aftershave, mouthwash, etc. One day I was in a hurry and late for something. I ran into the dorm room and did not turn on the lights. I reached for the mouthwash which was in a green and small glass bottle. I took a big swig and UGHHHHHH! I had grabbed the other small green glass bottle! Let me tell you aftershave DOES NOT taste good! NOT! NOT! NOT! And it takes FOREVER to get the taste out of your mouth!

Somehow I think diesel is worse!

So how does D2 tastes?

LOL!

how does D2 taste?? a little oily, smooth and yuck yuck yuck.
i was havin to lower the diesel in my JD to pull out the fuel level sending unit to see why it wasn't working..i finished the job the next day, an was a lot more careful with the siphon hose; the sending unit is good, and if anyone wants to know, the sending unit is @ 0-180 ohms; if i had known that info before, i wouldn't have had to pull it out to test it..
