If you're talking diesel engine oil - like 15W40 - the answer is no. Relative to viscosity, it's no different than any other engine oil. The main difference is how it suspends contaminates small enough to pass through the filter. That's why diesel engine darkens during use.

If you're talking about diesel fuel at normal temperatures - again, no. If untreated however, it will gel (thicken) in extreme cold.

I was remiss in responding to the final conclusion to my problem. In the end two of the injectors were not working properly and I found that I had two bent push rods on the number on cylinder. A compression check showed that all of the cylinders were pushing 315+ pounds and fixed.
