I am replacing a diesel injector pump on a 4600 Ford tractor. There are alignment marks on the pump that matchup with the housing. Off of the zero mark there are 5 lines, each way, that exist on the housing. What do they represent? What would the tractor sound like and which way would you rotate the pump to correct the fuel timing (sound)?

Thanks in advace for your thoughts!

Not to be smart, but if no one can answer, stop by a Ford dealer if you can and ask questions or ask to copy so pages out of their shop manual for that model.

O line is TDC (top dead center).
Other lines are degrees befrore and after TDC.
They could be 1 or two or three degrees per line.
Put the new pump back in same places as old one.
Moving it while running acts the same as moving distributor on a gas motor.
Get a cheap service manual from TSC, it should tell the correct timing of pump.

Thanks TIM,

I finished the install of the $795 rebuilt pump. Thank goodness the tractor runs like a charm now. Ford did a good job making the installation and adjusting easy.
