I would expect that if it says "Yanmar style" you are getting a clone made in China. Kind of like those engines that Horrible freight sell that look exactly like a Honda. I have heard of people using real Honda parts to fix them so it's possible that real Yanmar parts could fix a Chanmar clone. Usually they wait for the patten to run out and just make an exact copy of the engine.

I just emailed the distributor and asked why off road can't be used in their generators and here is their reply.

I agree, to a point and that point is ALL DIESEL SOLD IN THIS COUNTRY IS USLD--ULTRA LOW SULFUR 10ppm or less. Don't matter if it's red dyed or purple dyed, it's all the same.

Exception being B20 which is 20% soy bean oil in ULSD.

See grasshopper, diesel is like milk. It all comes from a udder (in the case of diesel from a cat cracker) and it all goes to the same place...Milk, your stomach, diesel, your engine (maybe your stomach but not mine).:D

Brushes wear out and will need replacing (most likely at the worse possible time) and the brushes can add electrical noise.

Tell us how. I'm curious. It's my understanding the brushes in a brush type generator head only carry a small current to excite the rotor and cause electrons to flow. They don't carry much amperage and consequently last a very long time, or at least that's what I've been told.... far as electrical 'noise', that's what fiter capacitors eliminate......but I could be wrong.....

Please elaborate.

I am now thoroughly confused on what to buy. I have been going crazy looking at generators. I finally thought I had one picked out. It was one of the only companies that got a good rating , an A, at the BBB. I already ordered a Pro/Tran 10-Circuit 30 Amp Generator Transfer Switch Kit . It's good for generators up to 7500watts. I guess I'll start searching again.

Gee, I have a AAA rating with the BBB as well, at least my business does. That don't mean squat as far as longevity, it just means they honor their return policy (when it craps out) and conduct their financial affairs in an upstanding manner.

I'd get a diesel Generac or a Cummins power unit if you want a diesel. NG and LPG units are much less maintenance intensive.

I know where there is a 150 KW diesel unit for sale. It has a V12 Detroit with auto transfer, pre lube and auto shutdown and it's trailer mounted (semi trailer). The4y also have a 200 KW unit with a Caterpillar V12.

I have the Aurora generator that you were looking at and I am very satisfied with it. I have about 40 hour on it so far. I took the valve cover off of the engine after 20 hours break in running and adjusted the valves(as recommended by the manual). The generator has fairly clean power and I have no trouble running all of my electronic equipment. It is a China clone generator and I am impressed with the build quality and fuel efficiency. The last run I had it ran 12 hours on a tank of fuel(3 gallons) tied into the house. The fuel consumption is about 0.08 gallon per hour per kilowatt generated. That said your fuel consumption will depend on the electrical load. How long will it last well I talked to a fellow here on TBN that was having trouble out of one that had 1200 hours of run time on it. The problem was the fuel filter and he was back in business.

That is really good to hear. I have only read good reviews on this generator. So I guess I'll have to trust my gut and go for it.
