I remember a thread a few days ago about gas cans. Someone did not like the new cans. I'm not sure I do either, but, ya' takes what you can get. I was looking for a few cans at the time myself, as there were none to be had within many miles of Katrina's landfall. My sister & some of my family came in last weekend from Texas with some help. My inventory went up from about 6 gal to whatever is represented here. All I know is I spent $140 today filling cans did not even take all these along. left several in the shop - - I'm still hopeful of getting power back in a few days.

Dang good eye, Junk. 1968 Sport Satellite convertible. I drove it off the showroom floor July 5, 1968. In this community property state, I like to tell my wife of 36 years that the car was brought into the marriage & is not part hers! Actually, she wants no part of it.
I don't start it often enough. Guess I'm too lazy.

Um, you mean the '68 Satellite, or the gas cans?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I guess they are both pretty cool. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good to see a MOPAR guy. Hope all will goes well since the hurricane . I just sold my 1970 vitiman C 340 dodge dart swinger to a guy in Montana . The guy drove 2300 miles said he would take the car. didn't even test drive or sit in the car. Asked me to load it in his trailer. Didn't make sense to me. Sure hated to sell that car. had it for 20 years & restored it. It had to go my son is going off to college soon

I have seen all the gas cans that I care to..... pictures of the car would be nice. I also had a 68 back then. Just one of many cars that I wish that I had kept. I guess that after all this time, both are keepers.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This is the best I can do for now. Picture was taken last Dec. right after my shop was finished. Sure looks like a lot of room. Needless to say, it doesn't look that open any more.

BTW, what does MOPAR stand for? How did it get the Chrysler connection?

THanks,

J

This cover is from my 1934 Dodge Brothers Truck Parts List. My best guess is that MOPAR is MO = Motor PAR = Parts... What I find interesting is back then, Chrysler Corporation put their logo on the head of every bolt on the car. No off the shelf parts for them. Everything was custom made.

Thanks - - MOPAR is something I've asked mechanics about, but never had an answer till now. Good enough for me - - thanks, Junk.

Problem is that you have been asking youngsters. You needed to ask that question of a 93 year old man who was around when Walter was starting out ... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Junkman,
Here's what I found doing some research

1929-Chrysler Motor Parts Corporation (later Mopar) formed.

I found this in an FAQ:

Mopar is slang for a Chrysler-produced car. Some extend it to AMCs
and to MMC products (e.g. Colt) sold by DC; and some restrict it to
high performance only. It is the name of Chrysler's parts division.
Mopar stands for MOtor PARts. MoPar is a registered trademark.

My Dad has been in Mopar/Dodge parts since 1967. He has numerous items, some old, some new, that show Mopar and DC. Motor Parts goes way back as one poster has mentioned.

And yes, the youngsters have a harder time getting parts than the older hands. My Dad has sooo many connections from over the years, plus old reference books; he finds all kinds of odd ball stuff in warehouses and dusty old nooks and shelves.
