Tractor
Jepe 354
I purchased a Jepe 354 (Fution, now Foton) a couple months ago and have had several problems with it. Talked with the dealer and mechanic and nothing seems to be happening. For the most part the tractor is very strong and well made. I know there are a few things you have to deal with on your own, but I feel the Dealer, Tractor mechanic should be able to explain, or fix a few things and or provide parts. Here is my email to him as a last resort.
"Hey XXXX, must be a problem with my emails, I never seem to get an answer from you or the parts department about the parts or problems with the tractor. Really thought this was the right choice in tractors, but the after sale support seems to be a problem. Still need the correct boot to keep water from getting into the transmission. I don't mean to be a pain in the aXX, but I think a dealer (tractor mechanic) should have answers to common after sale questions, support and parts. I can't even get a straight answer as to where the hydraulic filter is or seem to get the parts department to reply to my email as to a replacement filter cost. I would hope that if I were to spend the money to have my tractor completely serviced, the mechanic would at least know where the filters were located, and all the proper drain locations. After speaking with the mechanic, ( who's probably really great to party with, and that only) about my white smoke and lack of power problem, told me he never heard of an injecter pump oil level, how to check or what kind to put in, I realized his expertise is limited to trial and error, (replace parts and hope it fixes the problem) mechanics. This happend before and it was the compression release lever at fault, ( I found myself). We went over several other things to try and solve the problem, most from a had that problem before, replaced this and found out it was something else. The pump was dry, or very low, and upon filling, did indeed fix the problem. I also went over the problem with the radiator not being full, the radiator hose being loose, alternator belt and alternator bolts being loose, about 1 1/2 qts oil to much in engine, and did not grease the water pump, he said some had that and some did not (shouldn't he check). Told me he went over my tractor himself with a fine toothe comb and all was well. He also went on to tell me how my backhoe would not be in the shape it is in, if it were not for the incompetent staff that replaced him for a period of time (not sure what went on) and you had some idots that put my tractor and the backhoe together. Went on to tell me how you (XXXX) get the money and don't follow up on after market service. Well, I'm getting way to piXXed off to continue, but if I had an employee (sorry if he's your kin, or friend) I would can his aXX so fast he would think he's surrounded. You need a real diesel, hydraulic mechanic, not a (Dude, lets try this) person. Your loosing business man, or going to in the long run. Is there another Fution (Foton now) dealer, where I can get parts on my own, heXX, make me a Jepe dealer with the parts connections and I will sell and service them myself. Later, Stu

PS. Had a couple drinks too many, had to vent, don't really expect to hear from you anyway, but I had to try one more time before moving this further. "
Am I off base with this email?

Well, as I reply I've had a few cocktails myself, so.

After the part about his "mechanic" being a really fine beer-buddy, but not much else, there was probably no turning back..;)

Hey, sometimes it's good to throw all the cards on the table and see where everybody stands. It may really hack the dealer off or it might finally grab his attention and you'll get some feedback....you never know sometimes.

Besides, there is this other dealer you mentioned, so no harm done if you go to him right..?

Hey Bigbear,

That's one of the big areas that is lacking about buying a Chinese Tractor. I have found that the tractors are fairly well built, but the Dealers Mechanics or the knowledge that the selling dealership has about them is lacking indeed, if almost non existant.

I expected this however, and I figured that it was really up to me to learn about my tractor and keep it going, through my own routine maintenance and troubleshooting.

You can get a lot of knowledge about your tractor online, if you will go to the different forums and online sites and just read, read, read, and share with others about what you know and listen to others about what they know.

On my little Jinma 224. When I got it home, I noticed that the glow plugs were not working. I checked my fuses and found that one of them was blowing. I called the Dealer/Mechanic, and he said that it was probably the ignition switch. (WRONG) They sent me a new ignition switch, but it did the same thing. I made a call to JinmaParts.Com, and they told me that Jinma was putting in the wrong size fuse and that I needed a stronger 30amp fuse. I put in the 30amp fuse and that solved the problem. Next problem I had was hardly any oil coming out the creeper gear box drain. I called the dealer/Mechanic and the mechanic told me that the oil in the creeper gear box drains back to the main tranmission when the motor is turned off. (NONSENSE). I then flushed my transmission & Creeper Gear box with diesel fuel and now I have oil in the creeper gear box.

What I'm trying to say is, with the Chinese tractors, you will have to figure a lot of the problems out on your own and there is a lot of help here on the forums. Some of the Dealers/Mechanics don't know very much about the Chinese Tractors yet. American retailers have always been good at SUGARLIPPING CONSUMERS AND GIVING OUT A LOT OF MECHANICAL NONSENSE TO OBSCURE THERE LACK OF KNOWLEDGE. There are I am sure a lot of good Chinese Dealers and Mechanics as well, but the ones that aren't, make the other apples in the cart, look suspicous as well.

That said, I think that the Chinese Tractors are a very good value and I do not regret getting mine, but just know, that We Chinese Tractor Owners have to do a lot of figuring out on our own, so don't be afraid to buy WRENCHES and do it yourself, whenever you can. On little problems that you can do yourself, it will probably be the best way in the long run, and each time you do your own maintenance/repair, you will gain invaluable knowledge about your own tractor, and eventually you will know almost as much or more than the trained mechanic about your own particular Tractor.

When you sober up, just try and stay calm and then get the book out and the tools out and before you know it, you will have your tractor runnin and not giving your dealer much of a 2nd thought.

Get Your Tractors Runnin &
Have a nice day,

That's why many people suggest checking out your dealer because that can make a big difference. When you purchase from a good dealer of Chinese tractors your problems are usually minimal.

That said if you're dealer doesn't respond post your problems here and there are many people who can help you out.

Maybe you should list the dealers name so that no one else gets stuck

I wouldn't want anyone else to get stuck either, but I would suggest that if someone wants to find out who this dealer is, they contact BigBear through a private message or e-mail.

It's not a good idea to be publicizing the names of dealers that people have had a problem with. If he were to do that, the post would be removed.

Update: My tractor dealer called me today, and my faith in him is restored. He is going to pick up the tractor Monday, and fix any and all things that need it. The parts department sent me an email and are in the process of ordering the parts I need. As for the (mechanic Dude) well, sounds like they may be hiring a replacement. Should have it back on Friday, I'll post another update. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That dealer has been on this site before so i bet he saw it here and decided it would look bad for him, and decided to make it right.

The dealer is stepping up in the right direction so lets not bad mouth him. I never liked the "bad mouthing" thing publicly. If some one wants opinions of a dealer I think it should be done by first asking about the dealer and answered by PM if negative. Of course positive experiences can be public.
I'm no dealer or have any affiliations with any. I just don't think its right to bash publicly by name. Bigbear did this right by not naming the dealer in question. Now its the dealers turn to ante up and make things right,,,,,,,,,we are watching and reading Mr unknown dealer!

Giving the dealer the benefit of the doubt is most desirable until proven otherwise. These guys are trying to make a living and know what can happen from negative feedback. Helping them help us is difficult sometime but still better than becoming adversaries. We look forward to hear the rest of the story!
