Two years ago I went in for my annual checkup. My blood sugar was 320 and my A1c was over 13. My Dr. said I should have been put on insulin but went with oral meds as she knew I was active and otherwise healthy. I dropped 40 pounds the first year and was just taken off meds. My A1c has been 5.6-5.7 for the last year on med and did not change after a 90 day trial off the med. My weight has stayed at the new norm, fluctuating 2-3 pounds either side of my goal.

Biggest change was not eating after 8pm and limiting carbs and sugar and continuing to be active.

Good post and good care you are doing for yourself Joey.

A1c home test today 10/05/23 6.3
Last 2 tests Feb/23 and July/23 were 6.9
That's when I started to try to implement a keto diet. I'm still learning what to eat and more importantly what not to eat. New goal is 6.0 by Christmas... I can hope lol

What are your favorite meals & snacks
I love bacon and eggs with peppers and mushrooms for breakfast. I'm also a fan of what my kids call "super salads." Basically a salad with lots of ingredients. Always with some meat (pepperoni/salami/fish). I've learned to stop snacking. I am not hungry anymore and just eat my protein each day with at least 5 servings of veggies and include fat in every meal. It's the easiest "diet" I've ever been on.

Diddo (y)
My friend who went from A1c 11 to 5.9 in 8 months got me started on a keto diet. Just finished the bacon and eggs breakfast. I too eat the super salads once a day. Mostly use chicken, avocado, olives, shredded carrots and sunflower seeds. I try to eat all my daily food in a 6-8 hour window and then fast for 16-18 hrs.
I no longer miss the breads and chips or the 25 pounds I lost on the way to a lower A1c.

Good to hear. I have not implemented the IF yet, but I am trying to finish the dinner earlier. It's difficult for me to eat enough in that 6 hours and stop losing weight. I didn't do this change for the weight. I just LOVE that my joints never ache anymore. If I was retired, it would be easier. I can't have a big breakfast at 10-11am when I'm working.

I'm working at home so it is easier to eat well. We all have different challenges. Most of us can fast for 12-14 hrs which beats the heck out of that midnight bowl of ice cream

Now on my second g7 sensor and liking it in general. Anyone else here using one? Don't like the phone app but it's really a backup system since I don't commonly carry my phone anyway.

I'm sorry I didn't read everyone's responses but I am sure they were good. Just wanted to share mine. I was unfortunate enough to have had to take strong asthma drugs all my life (adrenaline for one) and when I came down with type 2 diabetes (too much insulin but resistant) an old doc threw a book at me that said don't eat too many fats just unrefined carbs cause you are gonna die of heart disease anyway.....and tried to put me on insulin immediately. Since I had no insurance and had to pay my own way I refused. He backed down and put me on actos which allowed me to use my insulin for the next 30 years with no major problems. I have seen many heavy men like me at the heart doc (when I took my mother-in-law) with amputated toes so I am thankful for my early decision.
