Bread is carbs, heavy exercise burns carbs and that will allow you to have a slice of bread with less effect on your body.

decaf herbal iced tea sounds like a winner and not hard to make from tea bags versus per bottle price.
Just need a nice container for fridge. And if I wanted to sweeten it at all, is Truvia a healthy enough alternative?

I just worry that anything sweet is tricking some sweet sensor in my system that starts some unwanted hormonal increases.

all that cereal I've been eating. The good stuff, Kashi, whole grain, nuts, cheerios, etc.
but now I know it just runs to sugar.
If I wasn't prediabetic, I honestly wouldn't care and would gobble down every roll in sight. Not any more.
But I do love getting my required dose of blueberries on cereal. I eat cereal for roughage, though maybe subconsciously due to the sugar...,
thinking it was good for me.

I'm guessing a rice cereal would be better. Breakfast is a problem. Other than eggs and meat, what else to eat?
Doc told me he'd rather see me eat leftovers from night before than cereal, muffins and heavy carbs.
What sticks to you? Oatmeal?

I can't eat eggs every morning.

Oatmeal. Broccoli. Blueberries. All good for me.
Weren't oats supposed to be good for your heart? Or did they have to retract that too?
Health claims for food are pretty restricted now.

reminds me I have a variety of oatmeals in cupboard. Looks like it's time to try them out.

Daugen, I don't know about Truvia. For sweetening I use Stevia, made from a South American plant that has zero calories but is very sweet. Apparently our bodies don't know what to do with it and dump the calories. I use Stevia sold by Splenda, the artificial sweetener company, for no particular reason except they sell it everywhere. For cooking we increasingly use Monkfruit, another plant derived zero calorie sweetner you can buy in some bulk.

Oatmeal is one of my two go-to breakfasts. I measure out half a cup to a cup of Quaker quick oats and nuke it with water. To add some creaminess, I often mix in a dollop of Chobani Plain Nonfat Greek Yogurt. It is very low cal and kind of looks and tastes like sour cream when eaten plain—good on baked potatoes instead of sour cream.

To sweeten the oatmeal, I can add a couple-three packets of Stevia or two tablespoons of Carey's Sugar Free Maple Flavor Syrup or Maple Grove Farms Low Calorie Sugar Free Maple Flavor Syrup. Both have excellent flavor and ridiculously low calories; I think they use sucralose, whatever that is. I actually don't always sweeten my oatmeal but do always try to remember to shake in lots of cinnamon when it's cooking.

To help fill me up and add crunch, I often chop up and mix in half an apple or three tablespoons of chopped walnuts. I love blueberries like you and usually put a cup of them on top. Or a banana.

My other standard breakfast now is the Chobani yogurt with walnuts mixed in and one to two cups of blueberries on top. If I am really hungry I might eat a banana too or a piece of thin sliced whole grain bread.

I do not know the effect of any of these sweeteners for diabetics!

You got that right, a A1C at 8.4 is not good and will give you complications which will kill. Someone stated earlier that "all fruits are good" which is not the case. For example, banana's are caloric intense and I can't only consume 1/3 at a time or my BG will go through the roof. Things are like apples are the apposite and do nothing to raise my blood glucagon. When i got a CGM*, it changed my eating habits, reduced my A1C and improved my life very much.. But if you like to eat like I do, then exercise is your freind. That is the more you move around, then the more you can eat care free.

* What is continuous glucose monitoring? Continuous glucose monitoring automatically tracks blood glucose levels, also called blood sugar, throughout the day and night. You can see your glucose level anytime at a glance. You can also review how your glucose changes over a few hours or days to see trends.
ArlyA, you know more about diabetes than me. But for those who are not diabetic, or maybe are pre-diabetic like I was: a medium banana is 105 calories. Compared to much of what people eat, including fatty meat and processed carbs, that is a low cal snack or meal component.

Seven corn chips are about 140 calories and in comparison to a piece of fruit are such bad carbs. Apples about 95 calories. So for 100 calories, with a banana or apple you get low caloric density with lots of fiber, fluid, vitamins, and minerals.

Do you know why bananas have such a bad effect on your blood glucose? Are they high in fructose? I should keep that in mind. But losing 45 pounds has seemed to straighten out my system. My doctor advised calorie counting for me to lose weight and I joined Noom and it has really helped me.

I'm unsure how a banana could only have 105 calories,,, or be listed as that? :ROFLMAO: Yes, I checked wiki and they are indeed listed as that. Nonetheless, everyone is different and you need to work with however your body works. This is why I become a proponent of CGM monitors.

Arly, I told my wife about all this and she speculated that bananas might be so easy to digest, compared with apples, say, that they hit your system all at once.

They (banana) are indeed full of Fructose but there glycemic index (speed calories are ingested) is not know to me. If I stick to 1/2 or 1/3 on my cereal, then I don't need to know there index. :)

Does anyone have a Continuous Glucose Monitoring system hooked up to your I-Phone?

Does anyone have a Continuous Glucose Monitoring system hooked up to your I-Phone?

I did last summer, for our cat. I had to scan it several times a day using an app. Then i would send in charts to the vet. We gave the cat insulin twice a day.

This is actually a pretty good description of the device. (y) I won't use my phone because its to big and I don't want to have it in my pocket all the time. Yes it will be broke while out working. The dexcom receiver is pretty small and does go with me in a variety of clothing pockets, since it is small. Haven't broke one yet.

I think in order to get a CGM thru Medicare (and other ins also) you must be on insulin and a certain number of times each day. It kinda reminded me of how difficult it can be to get an insulin pump if you need. But I don't have either device, so I am unsure of the requirements to qualify for either.
