My Yanmar does not have draft control so I'm thinking about trying to mount a steel wheel that would ride on the sod and keep the plow from diving down and bogging down the forward speed so the constant adjustment on the lever wouldn't be needed. Will this work or not? If not, Why not? Thanks!

It'll work but not without a few issues. A friend did the same thing for a small plow on his Kubota subcompact. The plow was able to maintain a little more consistancy in operating depth. With the gain in consistancy came a slight loss of traction. You will loose the downforce on the rear wheels generated by the "suck" created by the plow if that plow is supported by a gauge wheel rather than the 3-point hitch. Your gains may more than offset the loss though. It did in my friends case.

I used to have an old IH 300 utility with no draft control that used a chain or a slotted link on the 2 point hitch to limit the depth my plow went ( cant remember which) that worked pretty well. Maybe you could fab up brackets off the fender mounting flanges with a depth limiting chain down to the lower arms that would only allow the 3 ph to lower to a certain depth using a chain hook on the top of the bracket for adjustment allowing you to reach it from the seat. Just a thought.

I just bought a Leinbach 19-12 model plow with the guage wheel for same reason you are wanting a guage wheel. I haven't tried it out yet hope it works. Take a look at my photo gallery for some pics.
