I pretty much know the Deluxe High Back Seat is great. But, I'm curious if anyone has actually opted to retro fit their X-700 series with one. I'm thinking about it, but at $595.00 for the Seat and $135.00 for the seat rail assembly unit, I'm somewhat reluctant. My yard is pretty bumpy and I plan to keep my X744 for at least 10 years. So, anyone out there decided to go this route and not regret it? Opinions and input are very welcome! It looks very substantial in comparison to the stock one piece high back on springs. Thanks, Jim

I opted for a 700# roller instead, and now the lawn isn't real bumpy. :D

In the grand scheme of things, $750 isn't the worst money ever spent. Yes, the seat and hardware is grossly overpriced, but what isn't that is yellow or green?

You stated you plan to keep the machine for at least 10 years. In my opinion, you answered your own question. 10 years in ANY yard, smooth or not, is a LOT of seat time. That works out to $6.25 per month it would cost you to have that seat.

When I go in to order my X740, the very first thing I intend to work into the deal, is that I want the SE seat thrown into the price. Dealerships in my area are grossly overpriced with no competition, so I will be demanding they upgrade the seat free of charge.

The black seat wouldn't bother me one bit. The yellow seat would really show any dirt, grease or grass stains that get rubbed into it anyways.

Jim, In the fall of 2009 I put the deluxe high back seat on my X748 before I took delivery. Yes, its an expensive option but I think its a nice improvement over the stock set up. Of course I was left with the stock seat and suspension. I ended up selling the seat but still have the suspension that I have been trying to sell. This is one of those cases that I wish Deere would allow a dealer to order the tractor with the deluxe seat package so it costs a little less. I think a lot more tractors would have this installed.

I suppose Deere wants to sell as many of the special edition tractors as possible and allowing the deluxe seat package to be ordered might reduce those sales.

Whether its worth the money or not comes down to what you think the extra comfort is worth. I remember back in the early 80s when I got my first Deere 420 that had power steering folks thought we were crazy thinking you needed power steering on a lawn tractor. Now it would be unheard of not to have power steering on a premium tractor.

The value of comfort is an individual thing. If one is going to spend $10,000 plus for a tractor that will be kept 10 years then the additional $700 seems worth it to me.

Not yellow, just get one of these. I'm sure there's one that would fit the high back Michagan seat.

Be careful of Chinese knock-offs from NT. They are getting a reputation of that practice.

I have sloping lawn to mow, and wouldn't be able to do it with the deluxe seat. Need to shift off the seat on the side hills. I mow about 6 acres and sometimes think of a more comfy seat but not for long. I'd have to go around and prune lower branches off a few hundred trees if I was up any higher. :D

I suspect I will opt for the John Deere seat if I decide to do so, the montly cost over ten or fifteen years is about $6.30 and I thinking it's worth it.

My concern with the deluxe seat is when using the 3ph I need to turn slightly in the seat to watch the blade and rakes almost constantly. This might be difficult when using the deluxe seat. Other than that it would be more comfortable.

I have a SE model with the dlx seat and I can tell you it's worth every penny!

It'll be the best money you spend on your tractor.:)

Drivers always remove headrests and high backs are terrible in farm tractors where you are turning 14 hrs a day watching a plough etc..very uncomfortable !

I ordered the seat and if anyone is interested in my taking photos of the installation, I will. Now, need to sell of the old seat, just have to remember to keep the box from the new seat. Thanks for all the input.

I was going to retrofit seat on X485 and cost kept me from doing it, I traded for the X728 ultimate and the seat is worth every penny. Seat has lumbar support, adjusts to your weight for seat tension and the arm rests come in handy.

Went with the Deluxe back seat on my X485. Expensive yes! But when you have a bad back like I do it sure helps. Real happy with mine.

I installed one and it does make a big difference, it is a bit more difficult to be turned to look back at implements in comparison to the stock seat though.
