Dealer says injection pump- says they like to overfuel when worn. replacing with deere reman. Had good compression
Hydraulic lights also were wonky last year and this spring- he says gauge cluster
Very expensive repair. I suspect the times when the lift pump failed took their toll. (once with me and I remember dad having issues as well)

They over fuel when they get worn.?? That’s a load of crock..
A replacement pump might fix your problem, but not for the reason he gave...

I'm not an expert. Based on experience with the 2550 and our 93 dodge cummins, I would have guessed its just not making the pressures it needs to anymore and thats why its smoking. I just do not have the time to mess with it. 50 hours a week full time job, in the middle of haying season after a horrible season last year where 2 months worth of hay ended up as mulch, with a elderly mother and trying to restore our 1889 barn so it doesnt collapse. I just want it fixed. If hes wrong I'll let him know, trust me.
Advancing timing made sense (engine even sounded "late" and I had the special wrench from the cummins, but did not have the time
