I have a guy wanting to trade me a Deere 5085E. It is MFWD, cab, loader and less than 500 hours. 2014 model I believe.

I know nothing about these tractors. Anyone have experience with them?

What are you trading him? There seems to be a rash of quality control items with these tractors. Small hydraulic problems, ac issues, yadda yadda. There have been several posters with some threads about their issues. How common they are I have no idea but it would give you a good place to start looking.

He was interested in my M59. It is not a trade I was looking for I don't even have my m59 for sale he approached me.

When I bought my m59 I did not have a CDL or anything larger than a pickup to move it with. Now I have a CDL and a full size Kenworth dump truck and a heavy duty Pintle trailer so I have been thinking about getting a full size backhoe.

I am not exactly sure how this trade helps get to that end except that I think this tractor may be worth more than the m59 and I could sell it. I think he wants to trade straight across.

If you decide to trade you'll need to check on the 5085E serial number to be sure there's not a chattel mortgage(UCC-1) filed against it.

I would do some checking on prices for the M59 and 5085E to get a frame of reference as to the value of each. I would also see what kind of trade in I was offered for the M59 towards the backhoe of your choice. Crunch the numbers to see how you would come out.

The advantage to keeping the M59 is it is a more versatile tractor to have in the interim and allows you to trade up on your schedule.

Met with the guy this morning. He thinks he has a cash buyer for his 5085e and I expect a offer from him on my M59. I told him what I paid for it four months ago. Being that I wasn't even trying to sell I am not too motivated but if he wants to pay me what I paid or dang close to it I will sell.

Strangely enough you can buy a full size backhoe with a cab for similar money to the M59. Only reason I didn't buy a big one when I got the M59 is I didn't have a way to move it at that time.
