Cut a 1-1/8" pipe about 10" long. Welded a tiny bead on the insides, filed those flat to match the flat part of the solenoid. Used that as a wrench to remove the old, install the new solenoid.
1-1/8" ID pipe just goes over the solenoid and clears the surrounding areas. I couldn't get any other tools in that space. There's not much torque on the threaded part of the solenoid but access to remove it is very restricted.
