Deere 148 lift cylinder

Does anyone know how to get this cylinder head off? Turning the head does nothing. Deere 148 lift cylinder. Please help.

So does the head not spin? Or it spins but doesn’t unthread.

Use hydraulic pressure or air pressure to extend the rod so the piston puts pressure un the gland. Use a spanner wrench or hammer & punch to unthread the nut from the gland. You need enough pressure on the piston to hold the gland from rotating. When the nut is off, drive the gland down into the barrel enough to retrieve the snap ring from the I.D. Of the barrel. Then remove the rod, piston, gland and nut from the barrel.

Thanks!! It took some heat to soften some red locktite but the air method worked.

Seems to me some JD engineer got bored one day and designed the most complicated head he could imagine.

That cylinder rod guide is very simple compared to some of the complicated JD steering valves & SCV's that the JD engineers came up with!!!

More than likely a 3rd party cylinder. That design is used in other applications and brands.
