deer TARGET AND DECOY?????

I've been wanting to get a deer decoy ever since I used a friend's two years in a row bringing out curious and angry deer. It was amazing.

But......I also want a bow target that can handle broadheads. I've looked at 3D deer targets with replaceable "innards" , some sort of styrafoam I think. They look just as good as the decoys.

What I'd really like is to get a target, practice as desired AND use IT as the decoy. Does anyone have any knowledge of this idea. What I have noticed is that the decoys are like a real deer......4 legs w/ pins. The 3D TARGET has a FRONT leg and a REAR leg and I guess the same pins. From the side it is a terrific deer. The front/rear view a human will notice the legs....will a deer?

The only problem useing a 3D target for a decoy is,one they are a little heavy to carry around,two(any decoy) becarefull that you are out of the line of fire.Far as I know deer can't count(legs).They do sell decoys that are just flat paper one sided pictures.I have seen pictures of wild deer attacking a 3D target during the rut.Do they work.....sure,just make sure to de-scent.

And then add the appropriate scent(doe in heat, buck in rut........ETC.).


Be prepared for explosive results...........especially if you use a 'call' or antler rattling, in conjunction with the decoy and scent.

:deer:The TWO times that I used a decoy was about 75 yards into a field of Brassica where the deer habitually came just before dusk. They come out in 3's and 5's....we just wanted something to distract them so they would not notice us (bowhunters) It worked. The next year a sharp eyed DOE spotted us and after suspiciously watching us for a minute she sounded the alarm and all threw up the flags and disappeared.
Have any of you ever used a decoy on a TRAIL? or just "in the woods"? I'm gettin' all excited for the upcoming season.Thanks
