Deck Wash

I see on the new decks and this may have been there in past, There is a place to hook up the garden hose that allows you to wash the underside. Question is: Has anyone used this ? Does it work? I don't really understand how it can remove dried, hard grass.

Hi jbgood,

The deck on my X324 has a wash port. The point is to use it after every mow to wash away any grass clippings that may have stuck to the deck. You use it with the pto engaged and the deck lowered.

It won't remove dry, hard grass, but it may help to loosen it.

I made it part of my routine to rinse for about 2 minutes and then run the deck afterwards for about a minute to blow dry. Works great! Had very little cleanup for storage at the end of last season.

I've used it on my 2012 JD 655 Z-track. It's OK, but doesn't clean all the just mowed fresh grass from under the deck. I quit using it. Instead, I raise the front of the Z-track with my tractor loader, block it for safety, and clean it the old fashioned way.
