John Deere D100
Just bought a Deere D100 from Home Depot. I had a Poulan that I bought from them 2 weeks ago and the tranny was already acting up, so they allowed a return towards the JD. O MY GOD!!. That little D100 is really, really nice, especially comparing it to the Poulan.

Anyway, I'm wondering where I could find a chute plug to make the deck sort of a mulcher. I know I can buy the mulch kit which includes blades and plug, but I thought I'd try just the plug to see how well that works without the mulch blades. I simply don't want to have to change blades if I decide to throw a grass catcher on the back for fall cleanup.

Try you local JD dealer see if they have one in stock. Good luck with your new mower hope it works well for you.

Mine came with a deck plug and after hanging in my garage for 4 year, I finally put on. Two weeks later, it is back hanging in the garage. It gave me a streaking problem. (Unmowed strips of grass) How and why, I don't know, but as soon as I took it off, the problem went away.

Don't bother. If you're not going to do the blades and baffles, it's not worth your time. I bought one earlier this year thinking the same thing. I used it for about half my lawn then took it back off. It makes a big mess. You end up with grass blowing out all sides of the deck and a lot of it ends up back in your face as you mow. It also leaves clumps of grass in lines along the lawn. I tried it again later in the season figuring maybe slower growing and dryer grass might make a difference. It didn't. It's hanging on a hook in the garage where it'll likely stay forever. Worst $40 I ever spent.
I'm still just blowing out the side and double mowing to make it look good. I'm saving my pennies to buy a bagger. I'm also kicking around the idea of building my own.

And I didn't answer your original question. Homedepot.com has it (online only, not in the store) or you can get it at a Deere dealer. I bought it at the dealer. It was $4 more but that difference was less than the cost of shipping.

I have the plus on my D140 with the Deere Mulching Blades and it does great! I purchased it because i have alot of mulch beds and I didnt want to spit grass all over them. When using it your machine will certainly be a bit dirtier after the mow because of all of the chopping and lack of spitting out of the side. But on the positive side, I dont have any clumping or any other problems mentioned in this thread.
