Hey every body, I need a explanation of how a decellerator pedal works on a bulldozer, or could you point to a site that does. dont understand how I would use it in the field .

many dozers are desighned to opperate at a hi rpm so some have decel pedals for shifting from foreward to reverse and working in tight areas most modern dozers can be shifted without

Just to elaborate a bit more....

As the name implies, it's the opposite of an accelerator. With your foot off, the engine runs at whatever speed you set it to, usually with a lever of some sort. Depressing the peddle brings the engine back to idle. My only experience with one is on a hydrostatic drive dozer, and when you depress to idle, it also halts the hydraulic drive.

Slowing the tractor between forward and reverse shifts is one application, as well as nosing around tight areas and nudging things like rocks and stumps.

Some 4 wheel drive tractors have decelerator pedals. When in LARGE fields they can drive for a long time without having to turn around on headlands. They just decelerate, turn around, and let off of the decelerator.

Its used to sneak up on things, Like others said its good in tight areas. In the newr hydrostats you can opt for leaving the engine at full throttle to run the pumps and decel the drive. On the older direct and powershift transmissions Its needed to slow down a change direction. Powershifts dont have to have it but its easier on the transmission. Its also nice pulling up to a scraper when push loading or easing up to a stump or to an edge or in my case rubbish or trucks.

Case was known for having an accelerator. Not my favorite set up. You had the standard hand throttle for the set rpm.
It kinda wears on you in alot of hard pushing. IH/Dresser Could be ordered with either or. I worked for a company that had 4 of them set up with left foot accel and on with a left foot Decel and then a matching pair bothright footed ac and dec.

Yes, it is a lot easier on you for not having to keep your foot on a pedal. It is a lot easier on the transmission to slow the engine when changing direction. Take one of those transmissions out and rebuild it, and you will always use the decelerator.
