Buying Advice Dealers Not Ordering 2011 tractors

My opinion, but find a dealer that knows what they are talking about. Sounds like your getting some bad advice and info from people who have no idea what they are doing.

I totally agree! He told me that the Boomer 3040 tractor was the same a Kioti tractor that he could not sell on his lot (nothing against Kioti tractors) . I told that dealer to go pound salt. To me, he was trying to steal the tractor or had no concept of what class tractor this was...

Just curious why you are getting rid of your 3040 with only 18.5 hours? You spent so much time hunting one down-to get a pre LS tractor.

It is a long story, but the main issue is that my father passed away last April and my uncle is getting older who is helping keep the family farm afloat while I work in the NYC area. Seeing that I have the money now (and before 2013/20414 with Tier IV emissions boosting costs), I am thinking of just biting the bullet and get a more powerful tractor with a cab that I can keep for the next 10 to 20 years, can handle the property all season around and other family members can use. I have been a very loyal customer/fan of Ford/NH ever since I was a kid; however, I do not like the direction NH has taken and I think it is just time to move on. So, I am purchasing a JD 4520 cab tractor now. However, I did like the Boomer 3040 and thought it was a very good tractor!

Eagle, Im sure your not alone with other NH loyal customers.

The tractor market is getting so competitive, I shocked that NH would rock the boat like this.

I don't own a NH, but the outsourcing saddens me.

Hate to burst your buggle there, but a 4520 is only marginly more tractor than a Boomer 3040. In no way worth the fleecing your going to take in that deal. If you want somthing thats going to be meaninfully larger you really need to move into a utility class tractor.

While there is no disagreement that they are the same tractor class/size which is the correct size for me, the JD 4520 stats seems to be much different than the Boomer 3040. The Boomer 3040 is like a JD 4105 and close to a JD 4120. If NH would have had a Shibaura cab model with an updated HST, I might have stayed with NH.

HP
3040 = 40
4520 = 60

PTO HP
3040 = 33.2
4520 = 50

Engine Torque
3040 = 77 ft lbs.
4520 = 113 ft lbs.

Final Drive
3040 = Spur Gear
4520 = Planetary Gear

FEL - 400CX has a couple hundred pounds more lift than the 250TL.

Plus the 4520's HST is electronically controlled between the engine and the transmission and I am getting an economy PTO. I really like the technology the JD has to offer on the 4000 series tractors (however, Kubota has very good technology, I just do like them myself - personal preference). I know there are pluses and minuses to having more technology, but I like the technology especially when much of the technology has been used in the construction field for years. I also liked the JD when I test drove it.

I do think the Boomer 3040 is a very good quality tractor, but I am wondering what the parts availability will be like 15 years from now for the tractor and do I really want to deal with that issue. I have a better feeling that I will have better part availability for the JD in 15 to 20 years than the 3040, but I could be wrong.

In addition, based on our PMs yesterday, I am getting a few grand more for the trade-in value then what we discussed. The hit for me is really not that bad (is not a fleecing - that JD dealer offering me $14k was out of his mind, this JD dealer is much different), but it is still a hit nonetheless.

man you can get into a to wheel or for a few thousand more 4x4 TD5030, cab loader, etc.....this is probably 3 times bigger than the 4520. The TD or now powestasr is a bigger utility tractor with great features, and i bet you would never have to worry about having something bigger in the future.

..yea, my point exactly. Unless your totally PTO bound, I don't see the sense in it.

Our Kubota dealer at Covington, tn. has a yard full of Kubotas of all sizes. Sure is pretty.

Guys,

I appreciate the comments but I do not need anything bigger. Sure bigger is always nicer, can do more and in the end it does not cost that much more, but then the tractor will not fit in my barn. Also, I am back to square one buying implements again because then my implements are too small for the new tractor that is now "three times" bigger. I have just purchased new implements that fit the Boomer 3040 and will fit the 4520.

It is simple, I just wanted a class 3/4 CUT with a cab that has the technology and the resale value. This came down to John Deere, Kubota and Massey Ferguson for me. Massey Ferguson had the technology, but I am not sure about the resale value. So that left me with the John Deere and Kubota who both have the technology and resale value in case I ever had to offload the tractor. I am not fond of the Kubota, so I selected the John Deere. I was going to purchase a 4320 cab model, but for $2k more I can get a 4520 with a few more features I liked with the added benefit of 12 engine HP and a 10 PTO HP more. I always liked New Holland, but face it, they screwed up with their CUT line and thus they will lose customers. Maybe in 10 years if they rethink their CUT strategy, maybe I will return as a customer.

Rexman,

Unfortunately, your thread was hijacked; sorry about that. This is only my opinion and others will either agree or disagree with it. If you want a CUT with decent quality, but will have a paltry resale value and you are just going to run it into the ground, then the new Boomer class tractors should be fine for you. If you want a CUT that has better quality and higher resale, then I would look at the John Deere, Kubota or even the Massey Ferguson. However, I am still a believer in the older NH TC/Boomer class CUTs and they should hold their value better over time.
