Daylight Savings Time Patch

Since DST is coming early (March 11) now, and changing back later (don't know date) in fall. Is there a patch out there somewhere to fix. ?? Not very computer literate, know I can turn off the automatic DST thing --- But don't know how to reset the dates that are in the program that does the auto DST thing??

Any suggestions thanks

Microsoft has a tool called TZEDIT that will let you edit your time zones and even create your own. You use the tool to open your time zone and change the dates that DST goes into effect.

Like others have mentioned there are patches available. Microsoft was making it an optional patch. But effective with the Feb. 11 patch release Microsoft release it as a high priority. So if you have Auto Update turned on it, you received it. That takes care of Windows and most Windows applications. If you have any Java applications that is another story. There are several versions of the Java Virtual Machine with issues that Sun isn't issuing a patch for. They want you to upgrade to the something like version 5 or 6 (I can't keep track of their version numbers). They are free upgrades, but it keeps them from having to support multiple versions.

If you are asking from a business standpoint Java & Exchange could be your biggest issues. It is a bit of a trick to get the Server & Exchange and all of the clients updated for Outlook & Exchange to play well together. There are several software packages from IBM that use Java that need patchs (DB2, Websphere, Content Manager, MQ). The other thing to be concerned about is a lot of the hardware also require BIOS updates. To make these all worse, most of these "patches" don't just fix the DST, but they are lumped in with other things and you have to worry about what those will break.

The other thing to keep in mind is if you have anything at home that sets itself not via the Atomic clock. I have an alarm clock that sets itself. I've had to change the configuration of it to tell it what the new DST Rules are.

Now you want to know the real kicker? There was a provision in the Energy Bill that said at the end of 2007 Congress will review the energy usage and can revert back to the previous schedule.
