Who says customer service is dead! Just wanted to share an exchange I had with the Danuser company. It's a little long winded but I was so impressed by these folks that I needed to share it here:

Saw a Danuser MD-6 post driver for sale locally and was interested but couldn't find much info on the internet so I called the company. I didn't want to get into something that would be a nightmare to keep going with no parts or support available. The person I talked to was very nice and said that although that model hadn't been made for a while, all of the wear parts were still available and they still supported it. He said If i decided to buy it to call back with the serial number and he'd send me a free owners manual.

After looking at it I decided it needed to come home with me:D

Called back today with the serial number to get a maunal on it's way. The person I talked to wasn't in so they connected me to Glen. I explained that I had bought an MD-6 and that I'd like an owners manual. He said no problem, asked for the SN and told me he'd also send a parts manual and a new set of safety stickers. Then he asked me if I had used it yet.. I said no , he said if I had a few minutes and he'd walk me through checking some adjustments. Again , sounds good, these folks sure are nice!

After going over a few things he tells me that my wear parts are in new condition and the driver should have plenty of good years ahead of it. When I need parts they are still available and if I have any problems or questions to just give them a call and they'd get me taken care of.

I was very impressed! These folks have treated me like I spent $20K after buying a used, discontinued driver (made from 1956 - 2004 Glen tells me:)) ! I told Glen that with the way they've treated me I can't imagine how they treat someone who buys new equipment! He had a very interesting reply -

He said, "like a customer" - "we make quality, american made products but have to compete with the walmarts of the world. I can't beat the price of a product made in China, but I can build it better and make sure it does everything it's supposed to for our customer" WOW! Then he gave me a little 'by the way' - "I'm Glen Danuser, the 4th generation to run this company, I still answer the phones and EVERY email with this companies name on it comes from me. We've been here for a hundred years because we take care of our customers. We don't make the cheapest products out there, we make good products and stand behind them." He then gave me his e-mail address and phone extension and said if I had any questions or problems with my MD-6 to call and they'd get it straightened out.

This company just made it to the top of my list....

I'm going out on a limb here and predicting that Danuser sells some more equipment due directly to the way you were treated. The way you were treated doesn't seem to happen much any more. Going out of their way like they did to support a product that they don't make any more tells me a lot about this company.

Frankly, I'm one who has been turned off by the customer service folks at most companies I deal with. When the person on the phone says "Customer service, may I help you" it usually means "did you really have to call me when I ready to take my break. Can't you tell I'm having a bad day. Call back when I am not so busy"

I am not in the market right now for any new equipment but a testimonial like this one about a company that really understands what customer service is all about will get my attention in the future.

I had the same positive experience with the Henry Firearms company when I was shopping for a lever action 22 rifle for my son.

Companies that treat their customers like Danuser and Henry do will survive while many others fail.

Well done Danuser.

I'll go further out on the limb and say they probably don't have to spend a whole lot of time on customer service issues because of the quality of their product. Not indestructible, but has the reputation of being as close as you can get.

I had just the opposite example of service from Walker Mowers. Last spring my son was doing some semi commercial lawn mowing and we wanted to get a zero turn. The more we looked the more we liked the Walker. Their website is a pain, it would only let me put 1 zip code in while looking for dealers. Well we live in Gillette, WY and it is called the 2 hour town, we are 2 hours from everything. I called thinking they could help me look at some towns close, meaning less than 4-5 hours 1 way, the woman who answered the phone laughed hysterically at me when I told her what I needed. She said I was nuts to drive that far for a machine, mind you these are $5-10,000 machines. I told her I didn't appreciate her laughing and I was serious and just needed her help locating a dealer, this only caused her to laugh harder. Guess what I don't own a Walker mower.

Glen Danuser is aces for sure. I'm trying to get a G20/40 PHD to work with my tractor and he has been nothing short of a prince in his attempt to help me. He truly does answer calls and E-Mails I can atest to that first hand. Heck of a company and excellent machines. Customer Service runs my business and I sure do apreciate a USA made in America piece of equipment being in my stable of toys. If you read this Glenn cudos to your organization. Mark T. KML - Just out of curiosity is the Danuser MD-6 Post driver a PTO driven as opposed to Hydraulic driven post driver?

Whirly,

It is PTO powered. It has a rubber wheel that is driven by the PTO. That wheel engages the back side of the weight channel raising it. Moving the lever pulls the wheel out of contact with the channel, dropping it. It is a dead simple design with very few moving parts. I can see why they were in production so long.

Great option for folks with older tractors without usable hydraulics. Another thing I like about this is they recommend low tractor/PTO speed as it takes so little time to raise the weight anyway. This means your tractor doesn't need to sit there at PTO speed while you position the posts, which takes longer than actually driving them. = Less fuel and wear and tear.

There are holes in the top of the weight that allow you to add additional weight or add a "demolition" head. This lets you invert the weight channel and use a wedge shaped add on to bust concrete and the like! I can't wait to try that out:thumbsup:

I'm seriously looking for one. I have a Fordson Power Major with no rear hydraulics and this does look like the prescription I need.

Can you tell me how much the driver weight is and approximately how tall it is in carry mode?

... they recommend low tractor/PTO speed as it takes so little time to raise the weight anyway.

My tractor's PTO speed is 1200 and Idle is 800. Looks like I'd be idling most of the day

KML and others, thank you for the comments and write ups about your experience with Danuser. Reading all the comments gave me have goose bumps. This is why I love the manufacturing business, the customers! Most companies don't realize that without your current and future customers, you DON"T have a buisness! It frustrates me daily the lack of customer service in our industry and others. It is simple to me, if a company won't anwser your phone calls or emails move on to the next company. We are hear for any customer (new or used), does not matter how much money you have or spend. Everyone is treated the same. Buy American, think Danuser for your next piece of equipment!
