I'm considering buying a '77 ex-millitary D7F. Meter has 600+ hours. Does anyone have a view of the D7F or any view on whether the 600 hours seems likely on a military dozer? Any comments appreciated.

It is possible the hour metre is correct. The D7F was not a bad dozer in it's day. One of the main things to consider if you are going to buy it is the fact that the oil seals may have dried out everywhere, eingine, transmission and hydraulics, and putting it into hard work from the getgo may result in a big puddle of oil. But hey if the price is right, buy it.

Welcome to the forum. I can't really help but it sure would surprise me if a 35 year old machine only had 600 hours on it. Then again it is a government owned machine so who knows.

Check the condition of the undercarriage. Rollers, idlers, no sharp sprockets, rails, etc.. It's quite possible it was surplused a long time ago and has just been sitting. The only seals I'd be concerned about are the ones exposed to air such as hydraulic ram wipers. I've seen many very good deals come out of DoD auctions. I'd want to see and hear it run and operate before I pluncked down any cash though.
