where I work they made cutoff wheels no longer able to be uased without a special deviation. I guess someone at our south africa plant cut a finger while using grinder without gloves noe we pay for it .I use them at home with lots of respect and gloves !!!!

Well I have 2 Makita's, one for cut off and 2nd usually wears a wire brush.
Both bought used and have served me well for some 6-8 years.
IMHO, the major thing is to blow them clean often.
Also those Maketa's have nice LONG real rubber power cords that don't go so stiff that you could use them as fishing rods when it gets cold.

Ask me if I like Makita?

Oh, and I use piles of cut off disks as I love welding projects. (usually buy them by 25's when on sale)

So far the Makita small angle grinder and the 14" cut off saws have lasted many years. The Milwaukee small angle grinders lasted a couple of years each. The Bosch 9" grinder has worked well but is heavy and cumbersome.

For small cut off work I use an air operated unit. Most of the heavy cutting I do with a Victor torch or the 14" cut off saw.
