Hi All,

I was looking around at some other colours, and wondered why, if you wanted a 3X20 JD with a Cab, you have no choice in the transmissions, you have to get 'eHydro'. Case seems to be the same way, except IVT is the only option on the Farmall 40 with a cab.

MF seems to have more options, gear, powershuttle, Dyna QPS, or hydro. Any other brands like this? What about NH?

Any ideas why?

The main reason is that is what 95% of the people want and the tranny is strong enough to stand up to hard work.

So what about those who want it? Why no choice on cab models, but a choice on platform models??

It was my experience that MF does have more transmission options than the other tractor brands, particularly with respect to cab tractors. Actually MF is the only brand out of the ones that I looked at that had any non hydro or CVT options available on cab tractors. Even then though, the Power Shuttle was not available on some cab models, namely the 1648 and 1652. Also the DynaQPS was only available on 1648 and larger models and the hydro was not available at all on the 1655 or 1660. I imagine the reason for the limited options is the fact that most people using a tractor this size opt for a hydro tranny. Since only a small percentage would utilize the gear transmissions it probably wasn't worth the money to offer gear transmissions in all models. If you want to stick with MF, NH/Case/IH, JD or Kubota your only choice for a gear, non CVT transmission is an MF. I can't say much about Mahindra or Kioti as I did not research them because there were no dealers of those brands close to me.

because people buying a deluxe tractor don't often opt for an economey transmission.

I suspect that is a big part of it. Try buying a big Lexus or Mercedes sedan with a manual transmission.

There are some cab manual combos out there though. Kioti DK45S (not se) is a manual/cab model.

I would suspect it might have a lot to do with snowblowing - a big reason for many to want a cab. Hydro is simply better for that as PTO and groundspeed can be completely separated.
