"Customized" Some JD Suitcase Weights To Fit on my Kubota

I wanted a couple hundred pounds on my L3010 when I ran the sickle bar mower or my crane with the loader removed. The best deal I could find was 70 lb'ers in stock at a local JD dealer. I had to trim the mounting fingers a little to get them onto the stock weight rack on my tractor. They cut like butter with a .040 disc - surprised me.

Nice job! Cast iron cuts easily and acts as its own lubricant. I don't use lube when drilling, cutting or machining cast iron.

At first it was difficult to see the details of the modification. Old eyes, small pics.

But that does look easy ///

I'm looking to add to my inventory of suitcase weights. This just adds an option.

Looking at the front of my tractor notice that the flat bar that the weights hang on is below and behind the FEL brace/grill tube. You have to lift the weights above the tube to mount them. Rotating the weights inward under the tube makes the angle of the mounting slot to severe to allow the weight to slide down the bar. By cutting the finger I only have to lift the weight to the bottom of the tube keeping the slot vertical as the weight is moved behind the tube to align the slot with the bar.

Note that OEM Kubota suitcase weights locate on 2 points on the weight bracket. They fit on the top bracket and then 'index' at the bottom with, for lack of a better term, a protruding 'teat that engages into the hole in the lower bracket that keeps them aligned and not wiggling around. My dealer has a number of Kubota branded 100 pound weights. Just bought a pair actually, but not for the tractor. Bought a pair of 100 pounders to better anchor my Land Pride stump grinder.

Yes, I did note the Kubota mounting system. Right now I'm in a wait and see mode to tell whether or not I need additional stabilization. They don't have much lateral wiggle room the way they are. You are lucky you could get Kubota weights. I contacted two different Kubota dealers here that were in a half day round trip drive about weights and neither had any interest in helping me ??? There also is an on-line foundry that makes Kubota weights but the cost and shipping are high - these were high enough.
