I'VE GOT THE ANSWER!! Maytag!!! The Maytag auto was designed by Fred and August Duesenberg and produced from 1910 to 1912. Source: Vossler, Bill. Cars, Trucks, and Buses Made by Tractor Companies. Krause Publications, 1999. Pages 92-93. Now, what did I win? Also, "Maytag Company manufactured a 12-24 Maytag tractor in 1916..."

A carriage maker in Flint, Michigan, William C. Durant designed a motorcar and went on to organize Buick, General Motors, and Chevrolet.

Perhaps a tie. The answer ingrained into us South Benders is Studebaker. Maybe because Studebaker was the same company from wagons to cars?
