Curious about deck rings on flexwing mowers....

We had bought two Woods BX240 at work they were being being towed with a New Holland TV140 and a 145, within two years they were beat to pieces from the blade coming up and hitting the underside of the deck. No fault of the mower, it was being used to mow medians where there's everything from rocks, tires, propane cylinders, holes, you name it. Come time to buy another, the salesman said we should order it with the rings as it prevents contact with the underside of the deck. I've not seen it since it showed up last year but haven't heard a thing about damage.........Mike

A friend had a new pull type hydraulic wing mower and his employee jack knifed it on a hill and caused the pump shaft to be pushed in at tremendous expense

Probably a direct drive rather than a hydraulic, that's what the BW240 is, direct PTO drive. I do remember reading the manual warning you about approach and departure angles........Mike
