- International 1066 Full sized JCB Loader/Backhoe and a John Deere 430 to mow with
I've got this older Hydraulically powered 15' flexwing mower (Terrain King which is now owned by Alamo). Mower is powered by PTO driven speed increaser and a pump.
Debating on getting a newer mower.... saw a newer version of THIS same mower, now made by Alamo. The newer version has deck rings and mine does not.
Got me wondering.
When I cut with mine, the air/wind will blow through the hinges and I will have some grass accumulate on top of mower. I interpret this as the blade suction helping to pull the grass up and ejecting most of it backwards but some goes vertical. Leaves a decent cut. The field hasn't been cut since last summer and the sprouts were about belt high.
Are the deck rings on a mower strictly to act as a barrier between the blades and the deck or, do they also serve to create an air chamber to help improve the cut of the grass??
