Cub Cadet LT 1022
Just bought a new 2004 CC LT1022. Love the tractor except for a few things.

I was pulling a lawn sweeper behind the mower and the engine seemed to get very sluggish. This thing has a 22 hp engine in it. It should handle it with no problem. Is the governor holding back some of its power?

The sweeper did have a lot of wet grass in it making it pretty heavy but still.

The engines in all these new lawn tractors are grossly over rated. They know that people buy based upon HP numbers so they use whatever engine they can reguardless of what the torque curve looks like. 10 years ago Cub Cadet would have had a 14HP engine in a tractor that size. In my expereince its not unusual for sub $2000 lawn tractors to dog when going up hills or pulling stuff.

My favorite comparison to illistrate this a LT1024 vs a BX1500. Diesel vs gas, 15 vs 24 HP. Which do you think is more tractor?

Yeah that kind of sucks. My 1987 Simplicity 4212H has never had an issue. I just wanted to make sure that something wasn't wrong with it.

Are the RPMs dropping?
Or are the belts slipping due to the wet grass?

The engine and rpms seem to slow down. almost like the hydrostat is really churning. No foreign noises or anything just a real loss in power. When just mowing it's fantastic. Cuts grass very nicely and is pretty fast.

Are there any modifications that you can make to these engines to get a little more out of them? Nothing that's going to break the bank but there must be things that the manufacturer does that we can undo.
