I can run my cub cadet for a lengthy period of time without any problems as long as the mower deck isn't in operation. When I turn the mower on, the battery begins to run down. I have serveral suggestions as to what the problem is, but no two are the same. Any ideas?

sounds like, battery -or- voltage regulator -or- stator....Hang a meter on the battery check your voltage while running to see if your charging system is working

I have a 1641 and had a similar problem. I found frayed wiring near the PTO clutch which must have been causing a power drain when the clutch was energized (engaged).
