CT440 starting issue

Attempting to start my CT440 and all I am getting is clicking when turning the key. I have the service manual and have checked the battery voltage and shows about 13 volts and tested the alternator as instructed in the manual. Next thing I'm assuming I need to check is the starter but seems like the pages regarding that are missing in the manual. All I have is a diagram of the parts of the starter but no procedure for testing. Anyone know the procedure for testing this or advice on anything else causing this? I'm pretty novice at repairs like this so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Have you cleaned all terminals and checked cables? Especially where the ground connects to the frame.

Can’t answer your question about testing a starter.

What I would do
- check actual battery connections (tight and clean) end to end as much as possible

- make sure everything is in starting position - ie: in neutral, pto not engaged, safety sensors engaged, etc

- look over all wires in general in case mice have chewed them

- for any safety switches, make sure the wiring and connections are good


Probably not the problem, but the battery shouldn’t be higher than 12.6. Maybe try a different battery just to definitely rule that out first. Could temporarily hook a car battery up to test it

Thanks for the advice. I was able to track down the problem. Starter was fine. Ended up being a lose wire on the starter. Tightened and fired right up. Thanks again.
