CS2220 Tilt Steering

Has anyone had a problem with the tilt steering not holding very good? On mine it takes very little effort to move it forward or backward when it is locked as tight as it will lock. My dealer just called and said that he found no adjustment to make it hold better.

Not a whole lot of feedback about the newer CS series.......maybe not many around yet? Unknown?

I think I know what you are referring to. I have my steering wheel tilted all the way forward as on this sub-compact most adults need all the room they can get to enter, exit and operate while seated. Just one of the trade-off for a sub-compact.

I use the steering wheel as one grip point to get up onto the seat and the first time the steering column did slip, but when I readjusted it all the way forward and torqued the tightening lever as far as possible - it has held - so far?

I am conscious thou of pulling sideways on the steering wheel when I enter and exit as opposed to front/back as the locking mechanism is definitely not absolute - it just a friction lock on the tilt joint.

I suppose there must be some tightening mechanism on the friction lock, but I have not needed to investigate this, yet, as my steering column stays in the forward position all the time and I am conscious not mess with its positioning.

If you ever hear of someone who has downloaded a CS2220 manual and is willing to share....let me know.

On both my Kubota's there is. You have to look under the instrument panel. There is a hex nut you can tighten to increase resistance and I imagine since Kioti copied Kubota and from the start and bought Kubota's obsolete tooling, I'd imagine that is still there and you dealer should know about it.

If I find a downloadable service manual or parts book I will post it in this forum. My dealer disassembled the tilt steering on mine yesterdy (they said). They told me they could find no way to tighten it up. Their suggestion was to put it where I wanted it and then they would weld it in that position. I don't want to do that.

I am old fat and ugly so I am gonna build an adaptor so the seat will go further back and maybe a quarte inch higher. It will be a bolt on adaptor cause I do not want to alter the actual tractor in any way. Mainly cause of possible warranty problems if anything goes wrong later. My dealer is and will be aware of this when I do it.
The tractor has only been at my place for around 24 hours. They delivered it around 3:00 pm and came got it around the same time the next day. I hope to get it back today.

Just a word of advice on this idea: Good idea BTW as there is limited real estate in the cockpit........BUT .......that pesky on-seat safety switch will likely be an issue. Might want to investigate a fool-proof way of bypassing/shorting the seat safety switch before going to all the work of customizing the seat configuration.

Keep us apprised on what you discover.

heck, my M9 open station has an enter and exit issue as well, The gear shift lever is smack dab in the middle of the floor and it's always in the way. Built for a Japanese person I guess,

That's a scary dealership! If the issue is that the loads are more than the friction clamp can handle, perhaps consider a less-permanent solution first. It could be as simple as a bolt through the two parts.
