Backhoe Cracked Transmission case between bolts attaching backhoe

Yeah JimR,
I made the same point with my dealer by asking him to show me what part of the drive train isn't covered by the warranty. He said he was simply passing on what the factory was telling him.

Does anyone have thoughts on whether I dare have a hydraulic thumb (Michigan Iron and Equipment) installed?

If you make any modifications to your machine your warranty claims are over!!! That should be very clear to you by now... :(

That's right Erik accept in this case the weak link is upstream from the pins. Pin strength doesn't matter if the rear end housing casting is letting go of the mounting brackets.

That was his point. :confused3:

:confused2: I guess I was agreeing with his agreeing

By stumps are evil, I meant that I've seen more than a few people wreck equipment by attacking stumps with light equipment or abusive technique.

Hi Bill,

I'm not too sure what I want to do or how to effectively move forward either. Based on info I feel I'm backed into a corner with this BH and it's mounting design. My dealer is great but I think there are some issues with Kioti Corp. My dealer's tech assured me 1 hour prior to failure that I was properly using the tractor, backhoe, outriggers, and technique, and I was only using the 12" wide bucket. User error was ruled out after failure by the dealer and warranty officer. If Corporate ruled out user abuse twice than this has to be a design or material flaw which, again, I have only heard about on 2018 and newer NX units. I could design a mounting system around the axle tubes but it wouldn't be quick attach and it would probably void my warranty. I'd rather sell the backhoe and be done with it. It sounds like there is a market for the 2485 so I could try to recoup some of my money, but the market is quite spread out so I'm sure logistical costs would kill a deal.

Hi Steve,
Last summer I invited the dealer and/or a factory rep to come out and monitor my use of my backhoe. No one has taken me up on the offer. The fact that the factory fixed my tractor twice tells me they know they have a problem. I am not a big enough operation to justify a dedicated backhoe or a second tractor so feel much economic pressure to make the Kioti backhoe work. I too use a 12" bucket. Every disinterested person with whom I have spoken considers my problems to be the result of a design flaw. They are the ones that clued me in on the torque the backhoe could generate when operated at an angle to the long axis of the tractor. They are also the ones that pointed out how backhoes are mounted on other tractors. The consensus of these people is to let Kioti fix it until they get tired of fixing it. What that doesn't do is give me a tractor to use during the months it takes Kioti to fix the tractor. This option also seems to preclude the addition of a thumb that I would really like to have. And, I can't afford to loose another whole summer.

Kioti Customer Service and Dealer both maintain I am the only one that has EVER had any problem with the backhoe/transmission case. We both know that isn't true. Further, a quick internet search shows that there are many with this problem. I still don't know if only a very small percentage of NX model tractors are affected out of millions sold or if the problem is pervasive among NX models with backhoes or, if as you suggest, the problem crops up only in 2018 and later models. My thought at this time is that if I want Kioti to do anything that really fixes the mounting system, I will have to pursue legal recourse. I hate making lawyers rich! I may hate taking a huge bath on a new tractor even more ... if I have to sell the Kioti and get a more suitable tractor. Pondering!

Maybe approach your dealer about trading into a model that doesn't have this problem?

Probably still take a bath but maybe not as bad.

The day is coming when Kioti says they aren't fixing it anymore. :(

I hate to say it, but it's time to label that tractor a turd, and send it down the road!!

It's one of those things called, "a learning experience"!

Right, Kioti isn't going to be forever forgiving. Other than some tier 4 software issues at first, I haven't had any other issues with this tractor. I like the tractor so I don't need to get rid of it, just the backhoe.

I've been through issues like this over the years and did the best when I cut and ran. Sold out and moved on. Maybe sell the BH and keep the tractor. Maybe keep the tractor and buy a second, older tractor that will accept your BH and does not have the mounting issues your current one does. Maybe trade both the tractor and BH for a different brand.

If you keep what you have I'll bet you crack the case again and the company could tell you it was operator error and tough luck. An attorney would cost more than you might win and then again, you could lose. If you stand fast, you'll likely be nickled and dimed out of the same amount of $$ you would likely spend doing a trade asap.
