Thats the problem with city folks coming to the boonies ... they have no idea what they are getting into.

Wonder if that applies to all city folks?

Any folks from the country meet the same criteria?:)

The coyotes, at one time were a lot worse than they are now here in central Ky. When they started becoming a problem with newborn calves and other livestock, a lot of the farmers would put a pretty good size treble hook hanging from a limb about 2 ft above the coyotes head and bait it with a chunk of meat. When they jumped to get the meat, they were hanging there the next morning waiting to be shot. This got rid of a lot of predator Coyotes, however, it got rid of a lot of family pets as well  Ken Sweet

well certainly ... this day and age there are a lot of city folks who decided it was a good idea to live in the boonies for the peace and quiet and all that ... to then complain about hunters/tractor noise/coyotes and other animals =)

being a country bumkin is more a state of mind than a geographic location

One winter I turned my horses out in an indoor, it was dark and I was tired from working all day. Went out and flopped down on my back in a snow drift on a little hill.

Very relaxing... then I felt some eyes... sure enough, a coyote not 10M away thinking "is he cooked yet?"

When I sat up the coyote just sauntered off into the nearby woods.

About a year ago, the coyotes were packing up and getting dangerous, coming out in the daytime and following people on tractors (spreading manure) or trail riding in broad daylight. Manager got some hunters in to terminate them since rabies and distemper did not seem to be acting fast enough.

This is metro NY, antheap of people and still has an infestation of coyotes. They howl from a treeline next to my driveway sometimes...

We have quite a few around here (eastern KS). They have been eating the peaches that fall to the ground (early morning and late evening) They are lean and alert. They don't bother me none and I like to hear their yelping. I'd rather have a few of them than the darnned deer that really mess up a garden...peach trees...and rut damage. .. ... as well as vehicle accidents.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I must mention that this works both ways. :)

Being both a city slicker and a country bumpkin, I have gotten in trouble in both elements way too many times.

This all said, we had an ag guy give us some interesting info on Coyotes. They exist plentifully at both our LA home and the home in Washington. We had a large boxer / lab mix come home one night with its butt chewed on pretty badly (nice $1000 vet bill sort of chewing).

One thing I did not know is how they brought down my dog. It turns out that if they get hungry enough, and there is a pack, they will start a dog chase. One coyote will get the dog to chase it, and when that coyote gets tired another will come in. They will wear the dog down and then, well.. curtains. Our dog made it but sitting was a chore for a couple of months...

I second that. I like to listen to them at night. BTW I am a former city bumpkin (currently redneck in training).

we have way too many in Ms now so I don't doubt you seeing them in Ga. now. AR-15's work wonders on them. and "slickers" don't have to worry about me invading their turf. Especially LA.

Coyotes are way to plentiful here in Delaware County, NY. Hunting them has become the only thing to do. Our grandchildren and pets are the priority. It use to be that they only came out at night but the last couple of years we have seen them during the day. Seems like they may have lost the fear of humans. Listening to the yelping at night is one thing but it is quite another when you here them corner and attack an animal. It sends shivers up your spine. First thought is where are the kids, second get the gun.
