This phenomenon is nothing new, it's been going on for decades without explanation.

It's humans...weird humans, but humans. We have an unusually high number of people who think they're witches here in the Ozarks. Some of them get pretty far out on the fringe, while most have an understandable philosophy of life within the physical world. The lunatic fringe gets into mutilation every 5 years or so, then they calm down.
