Careful, msiewert. Folks in these parts don't take kindly to strangers askin' questions about the 2008 Kubotas. Threads have been known to suddenly disappear.

What you got thar appears to be the Murray Tractor Division's secret plan to invade the United Kingdom.

Be careful or your tractors might disapear... Kubota does not like their new model information leaking out. They seem to flex their muscles on the dealers and the threads seem to vanish.

Ohh no! my tractor disappeared... :)

Irwin, here's what Kubota says:

SAE Technical Papers

Title: The KubotaS New "Bi-Speed Turn" Mechanism
Document Number: 901630

Abstract:
Generally, most of the agricultual tractors are equipped with a 4- wheel-drive (4WD) feature to get maximum traction. Indeed, the 4WD feature is maximum traction, but it also spoils the turning ability, especially it becomes very difficult to make tight turns. This means that the performance of work is spoiled in some situations as follows: 1) in a case when the tractor has to till the soil next to the previously tilled lane; 2) in a case when the tractor has to mow around the bases of trees or some other obstacles; 3) in a case when the tractor with a front loader has to change directions in a narrow space.

Because of these problems, we researched and developed the "bi-speed turn" feature to improve on these disadvantages. This feature can be used whenever the steering angle of the front wheel exceeds approximately 25 degrees, the front wheels automatically start turning nearly twice as fast. The result is the tractor can make tight turns smoothly.

Bi-Speed turn is a system that allows turning a FWD tractor in a tighter turning radius when FWD is engaged.

It uses a two speed gearbox in the front axle that shifts to a higher ratio when the steering angle reaches a certain angle. This helps to prevent the tires from damaging the turf when turning closely around obstacles and "pulls" the front of the tractor around the turn more sharply.

It's rather crude but effective. My B1750HSD is so equipped and will cut a circle of around 18" with the 60" mower and FWD engaged on just about any slope.

Because there is a torque limiting clutch in the Bi-Speed system, it will slip under heavy load. The Bi-Speed can be disengaged for heavy duty work.

Thanks guys..humm ... sounds handy, just wonder if it complicates the front differencial's integrity? ya know: too much gearing in the pumpkin?

The front axle appears to be the weak link in a 4WD/MFWD/FWD tractor's drivetrain, I'm not an engineer, so don't take this as a insult to anyone's tractor, just wondering.....:)
