Just got about 5 bids in central Texas and it ran 3.79 to 8.75 a foot for a 4" slab.

My 30'x40'x4" slab INCLUDING the barn turn key installed is less than that!
$13,360 / 1,200 sqft = $11.13 sq/ft!
I hadn't realized how blessed we were in this area on how cheap it is to build things.

Last June I had a 24'x42' slab poured for my steel pole garage/workshop. Slab: 6" thick, 3000 psi concrete, #4 rebar criss crossed on 24" centers, footings 12" wide x18" deep.
Cost: $7500.

I am planning for a post-tension foundation with beams about 20" deep and main thickness 4" and the price is somewhere in the $4.75 to $5 per square foot range, turnkey. This does not include piers to be drilled under the slab.
I just got a quote from a local contractor:
4" stone, 4" concrete, 6x6 10/10 wire, 6 mil vapor barrier is $4/sq ft. If I made the concrete 5" thick his price would be $4.45/sq ft.
That's a little better than $11.50/sq ft quoted by the barn builder! /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
Now I just need to find a good barn builder with a decent price.....

I charge ~5.00/sf w/ 1/2" bar in a 2-3' grid not including stone underneath.
Do not use mesh wire. Use rebar and fibre crete. I have used this combination for 10+ years and have never had any problems.

I second this. Every slab I have ever seen poured with the 6-6-10 mesh cracked in a short time. The ones done with rebar do not crack as often, that is not to say they won't crack if poorly done, but properly prepared they are much better. #4 rebar (1/2 inch) on 2' centers

The sand lets the slab move as it expands or contracts.

Wire is actually stronger than rebar, but it's extremely dificult to keep in the middle of the pour. What happens is it ends up at the bottom of your slab and provides nothing to the strength of the cement.
Rebar is allot easier to keep in the middle of the pad.
