When is the last time you seen Chris Rock hammered for his racial insults {jokes} about white people? Sounds like a double standard to me. Move on....

The technical term for this double standard is reverse racism.

All of this wouldn't be a problem once everyone realizes there was only one race created...

The human race.

Peace!

The trouble with our public figures and heroes is that they are recruited from the human race. They are not special, invulnerable nor without dislikes or prejudice. I am by no means defending Richards for his actions, but I do have to give him credit for eating those stale, dry words. Now where is the apology from the heckler? We cannot hear all words spoken by the person or persons, who set off the tirade. The price of popularity is the loss of a personal life and being examined under a microscope by the media. I like my life of obscurity and any person who shows me respect will get it returned.

I would say he peed on the electric fence - it was painful to watch - talk about someone with a problem.

Gloria Alred(?) will save the victims though. Their pain and suffering will be well rewarded - and Mr. Richards won't be quite as rich in the morning.
Hopefully his Freedom of Speech will be protected by the constitution. Not saying what he did was right, but I don't think his tirade damaged the "victims" to where financial compensation is required. Just my opinion.

Well, if Richards is truly broke, then they can sue all they want, you can't get blood from a turnip.

I don't really buy the distinction between Rock's act and Richard's tirade. Have you ever seen Chris Rock's acts? Very often vile and vitriolic, very angry at times. In my opinion its worse when you think about it, write it down, practice it and then go out and say it in public....for money. I also don't buy this double standard for the "N" word. I personally think it is vile and my kids are not growing up in a household where it is spoken. Unfortunately I did. But, if the word is truly vile, truly racist and truly unspeakable, then so be it. Chris Rock should get the same flak when he says it as Richard's gets when he does. To elevate the word to such truly unspeakable proportions and then give AA comedians a free pass when they use it, often in the very same context, to make money is to confuse the issue and bring the word back into the culture as something less than the vile thing that it is. I also don't understand how the 'N' word continues to be such a taboo when 'red neck', 'cracker', 'white trash' (the worst thing you could call someone where I am from) and any of the various slurs directed at races, nationalities and religions seem to have a lesser status in the 'unspeakable lexicon.'

Yell, I just noticed that this board has now banned the other racial slurs that were fine to write just yesterday.
Im not sure how I feel about that. I think I will just contemplate it for awhile.

Are you saying that they have added words to the banned list since this thread has started? I haven't tried, but I know that there are many words that are offensive to some religions and races that will still get by, since some of the people are not as familiar with them as some of the more common words. I still see people using words that you can tell what they mean, but they just put a few *** in to fool the automatic censors. When we see this, what are we to do? Ignore it, or notify the moderators? If we notify the moderator and the thread disappears because of one persons indiscretion, then we all loose. I wonder if it were possible for the moderators to just remove the offending word or words completely? In many instances, removing just the sentence would be sufficient without killing the meaning of the post, or killing the thread itself.

There is no Constitutional Right to NOT be offended.

Those who get 'offended' need to toughen up. Life is not a bowl of cherries.

I could be wrong. (I was ONCE before) But it seems to me that the majority of folks who often "get offended" easily are LOOKING to be offended. It allows them to rationalize their own low self esteem. I'm a firm believer in that ol "sticks and stones" saying .

Yes, Earlier in the thread I posted to make the point that the N word is only a word, no worse and no better than any racial slur but for some reason its treated way worse than others. A double standard.
My point was made by this board. The N word auotmatically got ******. After I posted I edited to see what other racial slurs got **** and none of them did. I used common slurs for Jews, whites and asians and they were fine to use. I didnt set out to make my point that way but the board brought it home better than I ever could have. Now the moderators have **** all those slurs but only after someone made the point that the N word is no different than any racial slur.
Im not singling out this board or its moderators for the double standard. Its throughout our society. That was my only point.

Why are you using racial slurs on a family friendly tractor board?

He wasn't. He was only pointing out the fact that only one word was nixed. Now, more words are nixed that are considered racial slurs. It is admirable that the management took steps to correct this immediately. However, there are still words that are in common use that are not allowed to be used on these forums, and I have been advised can't be used on these forums even when they are used in the context of their true meaning. Words are only words on a page, it is when you put them into the context that they are used, is when they are either acceptable or unacceptable. We have a diverse group of people here, and what one word means in North America, might not have the same meaning in England, or Australia for that matter, and both are part of the United Kingdom. Both the plumbing and railroad industries have terms for various operations or parts that some might find objectionable when taken out of there context.

Up until yesterday those words I used were fine with the management. My point was why are some slurs against some races considered acceptable while others are not.

Acceptable where? At TBN, or in life in general?
Who determines they are acceptable, both here and in general?

I still maintain only one race was created... the human race. :)

This is true, but sometimes I believe that there membership in the human race should be revoked, and at other times, I wonder if they really are human. I have seen so many weird things in my life, that it leaves me to wonder how we made it to this point. "If man evolved from apes, why are there still apes today?" Don't remember who wrote or said this, however, I believe that some have not evolved beyond being able to speak, and they are still stuck in the primate roll in society.

Society doesn't determine what is acceptable on television; the television networks determine that.
One of the members here whom I sometimes disagree with happens to be Jewish. Should it be acceptable that I use certain words towards him at TBN, just because the words happen to get past the filters?

If enough representative members of society (the Nielsens) decided to turn the TV off of a particular show, dont you think that show would be cancelled? If enough members consider the show acceptable, then it stays on.

Obviously I cant answer for the whole board but Its acceptable to me that you use "certain words" towards him, I couldnt care less. I couldnt care less if you use "certain words" towards me. Ive been on this earth long enough and interacted with enough people in my life that any name calling towards myself or anyone else is pretty much meaningly to me. Thats not to say its right, thats only to say that my acceptance level is higher than some.
